DOUBLEHEADER KICKS OFF OPENING WEEKEND AT PEORIA SPEEDWAY
(Peoria, IL) The 2013 racing season at Peoria Speedway kicks off in a big way this weekend, with a doubleheader of Modified and Late Model specials on tap for Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
The “Mug Root Beer 40” kicks off the season, with a $2,000 winners share on the line for the UMP Modifieds on Friday, April 12. UMP Late Models, Steel Block Late Models and UMP Hornets will also be racing. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for ages 8-15, with ages 7 and under free. Pit gates open at 4 PM, with grandstands at 5 and hot laps begin at 6:00.
On Saturday, April 13 the 6th annual “Don Bohlander Tribute” race will pay $3,000 to-win and will be sanctioned by the Sunoco American Late Model Series. The race is a tribute to one of Peoria Speedway’s all-time great drivers and will be a benefit for Parkinson’s research, with the Don Bohlander FUNDRacers for Parkinson’s on hand. 100% of the money raised for Parkinson’s research will be donated to Bradley University and their Parkinson’s research program. 2012 UMP National Champion Brian Shirley is the defending race champion.
UMP Modifieds, Steel Block Late Models, UMP Street Stocks, Illinois Lightning Sprints and UMP Hornets will also be on the program. Pit gates open at 3 PM, with grandstands opening at 4, and hot laps at 5. Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for ages 8-15, with ages 7 and under admitted free of charge. A UMP license is required for all competitors for both nights of racing.
