    Default block prep.

What is the best way to clean/prep for a block deck when doing a head change only?

I used them all the time at the ford dealership years ago.

I use this on my decks http://www.goodson.com/SS-4U-1-1_4_Wide_Super_Scraper/ If any of my customers use a scuffy pad on any of my decks so far from what I have seen I have to resurface cause they are not flat any more. And a scuffy pad sure does no duplicate what CNC can do for a finish.

yeah I would never use those abrasive pads on a flat sealing surface..I use a razor blade to clean the gasket and then an oil stone over the entire surface..

Those pads are not abrasive, they are rubber, some softer than others
ive used them to remove decals, and not mess up paint. I know a lot
of ase mechanics that use them for gasket removal without any problems.

If you have ever surfaced a head after they have been used to remove the gasket material you would be against them they do take material off.

the guys telling you not to use the wheels are right. even the bristle brush pads in that video are abrasive filled. that garbage gets in every part of your engine and they do take material away. the abrasive can ruin bearings and the particles are to small for oil filters to catch. use a razor blade.

Was thinkin a razor blade and a shop rag with brake parts cleaner.. if it's smooth it's ready...

Last time I did a head change was only after 3 nights came clean off lol.

Would a nylon brush be ok as a brass may shed a bristle.

Ditto the wide scraper. No orbital stuff for me. If taken apart it likely needs surfaced anyway.
