    Default Bert bell housing question

I have a Bert bell housing on my 602 and when I go to start it the idler gear that is activated by the starter will start to turn the flywheel for about 1-2 seconds and then it just slides back and grinds on the flywheel. It is a new flywheel but the bell housing is used, Is there any thing I can do to fix this problem. If I hold the idler gear out with a screwdriver it will start fine and drop back into place fine.
