    Default chipped main cap register

    so I got a 400 chevy engine and was tearing it down ( stock, right out of a pickup) and #2 main cap register is chipped in the block ( about 1/2 gone). do I dare weld or braze it up and re-machine it ??? anybody ever done this?

    Putting splayed caps on it would fix it but in the end it's still a stock 400 block...

    but the splayed caps I have fit in the stock registers.

    There are flat bottom splayed caps available. They are wider than stock and registers will need to be cut.
