    Default 8.5 rear end...

    Putting together a pure stock with a 77 caprice. These gears hold up ?

    The GM 8.5" is almost as strong as a ford 9" IMO, Im putting an 8.5 in my car for next season (per track rules). I ran them rearends years ago and never had an issue.

    Stay away from the 7.5" GM, unless you put moser axles in it, weak as he11 in stock form.

    From what i have read the 8.5 axles are a 28 spline and that the axle bearing is the weakest point. So if i use it i will replace the bearings and see what happens.

    Checked the rear end and found out it is a 7.5.
