Block decking ?
I recently got a motor built by someone I wasnt familiar with and so I took the head off. Im new to working on engines so I dont know if the blocks been decked or not....do I need to measure the piston pop up and is there a way to look at the block to tell if its been done...there are large swirl marks going all the way across the block but hard to tell with my lack of knowledge
-
If it looks like brand new metal it's probably been decked
-
It does look new but Ive seen alot of motors that look new but have couple seasons on them...wasnt sure if there were any markings I can go by or check piston pop up
-
lay a straight edge across the cylinder with the piston all the way up and see what feeler gauges fit under there if any
No matter how hard you try...you cant fix stupid!!!
If you build it right...it will turn left!!!

if the swirl marks are there, will that be an indication it was decked...its not legal in my class and can't afford a new block....

i use a flat file on the deck of my blocks just to clean them, and it leaves swirl marks
