    BOYD’S SPEEDWAY
    RESULTS
    3-25-2016

(Ringgold, GA) We must first recognize what this day is all about. We are Thankful for what Easter Weekend represents and we are thankful for all the blessings we receive. It was a cool Friday night after the rains had past through the area just hours earlier, but the racing may have been the “Hottest” we’ve seen all year. With racing in all divisions, it was first time to qualify the Late Model Division. With 14 Late Models ready to see who would be the fastest it would be Cleveland’s John Owenby piloting the A19 who set the best time followed by Craig Burrows. Both would set on the pole of their respected Heat races. Owenby would go on to lead every lap in Heat #1 followed by Brian Jackson and Soddy Daisy’s Rick Hixson. In the second Heat Riley Hickman would also lead every lap over Burrows and Todd Hernandex. The New Topless Sportsman would be up next with Cleveland’s Justin Winters taking the early lead in Heat #1 and would be first to take the checkered flag over Justin McGatha and Beau Bice. In the second Heat last week’s winner Josh Walker would also lead every lap to award himself with an outside pole position for the 25 lap feature event followed by Mark Heatherly and Jason Layne. The last to qualify would bring the Crate Late Models to the track to determine the starting positions for the 25 laps feature. Ringgold’s Jamie Perry piloting the new looking P4 would set sail as he set the fastest time among 20 drivers followed by Jason Welshan and Ethan Hunter. In Heat #1 Perry would set sail from the pole position but it would be a heated battle behind the leader. With the “Youngster” Cruz Skinner, Bobby Richey Jr. and Ethan Hunter putting on a show in the leaders rear view mirror. Perry would go on a take the victory followed by Hunter, Skinner and Richey Jr. In the second heat Eddie King Jr would lead them to the green a quick pass by Kyle May would place King in the runner-up spot but a lap 7 pass would see King regain the lead for good.

The first feature of the evening brought the “Heavy Weights” B-Hobby to the front stretch for their 15 lap main event. With Michael Brooks in the familiar #48 he would set the early pace but as laps clicked off and his lead began to increase it was his motor that would be his biggest enemy of the evening. As on lap 10 as he past under the flag stand he saw his motor go up in smoke ending any chance he had of winning. This handed the lead over to the #49 Rickey Wagner who lead the final 5 laps, but a post race weight inspection would see his machine cross the scales light. This would give the victory to Adrian Williams followed by JR Pierce and Charles Williams.

The Topless Sportsman were up next with Justin Winters and Josh Walker bring the field to the green, Walker would take the lead as he was able to motor around Winters from the top side. A newcomer to the division would see Mark Heatherly find a groove up around the top of the track as he set his sites on the front-runner. A good battle was brewing behind them between Justin McGatha, Beau Bice and Jordan Roadabaugh. Each taking their turns at passing one another lap after lap. We raced caution free for the first 10 laps but on this lap it appeared we were never going to see the 11th lap. First saw the caution waive for the L00 of Jason Layne in turn 2 we then saw a restart slowed for the spin by the 29 of Justin McGatha. On the next restart Walker took the lead, Winters now had a challenger in Mark Heatherly as he had jumped back to the top and made the lap 13 pass over Winters from the top. Heatherly made a valiant effort to pass Walker on the last lap but in the end Walker won by a nose to take his second victory in a row followed by Heatherly, Winters, Bice and Roadabaugh.

The Late Models were next and what a show these racers put on. With John Owenby and Riley Hickman two of the most consistent racers in the area leading the field to the green we would witness some of the best side by side racing seen for awhile. Riley had the outside groove and Owenby used the bottom and just when you thought one or the other had the upper hand the other found a way to fight back. The two raced side by side for over half the race until finally Hickman was able to get the slight advantage he needed to make the pass. A lap 9 caution for a spinning Brian Jackson in turn 2 with heavy front end damage would see his machine retired to the pits. Once back underway the crowd was enjoying the battle between the two front-runners and as they began to battle through lap traffic the distance between the two started to shrink. At the checkered Hickman took a car length victory over Owenby, Todd Hernandez, Rick Hixson and Mike Tinker rounded out the five.

The last feature of the evening would see the Crate Late Model storm to the front stretch. With 20 cars ready to battle local favorite and multi feature winner Jamie Perry would lead them to the green. Perry and King would put on a fierce battle for the lead but by the 9th lap Perry had pulled away working the lap traffic like a hot knife cutting through warm butter. Perry expanded his lead over King taking the victory followed by King, Ethan Hunter, Jason Welshan, Cruz Skinner and Chip Brindle.

Next week make your plans to arrive early as the Lucas Oil Series storm the 1/3 mile clay oval for the first time. A huge overflow crowd is expected so come early to reserve that special seat.

Curious if there has been a permanent driver change in the A19? Seen Boyd's on Hiett's schedule but Lil' John was driving? Anyone know? Thanks
