    Default Valve Spring Damper

I am running EQ heads with stock diameter 1.250 valve springs. I had bronze guides installed and now the spring damper is rubbing on what was left of the cast guide. The machine shop left that shoulder for the spring to center on. My question is can I remove the damper from the spring, that would eliminate my problem. Some other racers are telling me to remove them and not worry about it.

No you cannot remove the dampner. The dampner is there to control the harmonics of the spring by having an interference fit with the spring. There are springs available without a dampner but they have an interference fit between the two springs.I prefer the springs without a dampner because the dampner wears out the retainer.

What kind of spring are you running? Ive never had a clearance issue with the guide boss on the EQ heads with a pac 1201 spring.

Unless Howards has stepped up their quality..doubtful..., ditch those springs for something better...
