Default Power steering pump or rack going out ?

When I turn the wheel at 1500 rpm idling, belts squeal, even when revved to 5,000 still difficult to turn wheel but it'll turn with my help. Any ideas?Never had a rack go out so not sure of what the symptoms would be.

Could this be as simple as the belt being loose?

No, we tightened it to point that's it's too tight.

Is that what was making it squeak or did you figure out what it was?

Is the belt wore out(bottoming in pulleys)? V belts, if that is what you have, run off the sides.

P/S problems can be a itch to figure out . Without T-ing gauges in gauges its a expensive game of logic and replacing parts.Because the belt squeals it would seem to be a restriction somewhere. Some times hoses fail internally with no signs on the outside. Any more info? How did it start, Any wheel contact? Squeal while turning one direction, both directions or no turning at all?

If you have air in the system it will act like that as well. Bleed the system a couple times to be sure. See if that helps.

We decided to install the wider vbelts 13 mm vs 10/11mm,Squealing stopped. Must have been bottoming in one of the three pulleys. They ride a bit high now but better than what we had. Thanks to all that posted.
