Anybody wanna take a guess what the actual track size is if you run the bottom around the tires? I'm gonna say 1/7 mile. Late models may hit 65mph at the end of the straight away. If you get a good spot, your the man in the catbird seat. Gonna be so tough to pass. I'm for once a fan of the cushion this week. If the top doesn't come to life and get some speed up there, I'm afraid it's gonna be a snoozer fellas. On a good note, were racing in the Midwest in the middle of December. The corners are over 60' wide so from a fan perspective we need a cushion to come to life. For all who is there and traveling there, be safe and enjoy. St Louis is a rough city so don't make the wrong turn. Lock all car doors and park your car where it's in the open. Boogidy boogidy boogidy, let's go racing boys!

Really should scratch the qualifying next time. Cap it at 75 entries in each class, pill draw for heats, start at 3 p.m. Farm the track every 3 or 4 races depending on how delays need to be scheduled for ventilation. Just those things alone will help this deal tremendously.

You're probably pretty close on the track size. They compared it to Macon but considering Lanigans fast time was only 4 tenths off Moyers Macon track record tells me something. Moyer ran around 10.2 on a high banked and tacky Macon track. Lanigan was only 4 tenths slower with literally no banking and a very lose surface. That tells me Gateway has to be somewhat shorter in distance.
They got around pretty good in qualifying. 12 car heat races should be a sight to see.

The ventilation issues can be corrected. They just need a controls contractor in there to override OA and exhaust dampers. No big deal, you would think this would already be in place.

Eight 12 car heats, only 8 laps and one car moves to the feature? Why not just take them from times and save the vent problems, to some extent. A mile and a half race will be over by the time they get spread out to race. The last Mod race rolled off at 3.11 AM this morning. That is just too late, with out dancing girls and alcohol involved. That would be better than shortening the feature, which is just 8 miles long now. Most of us go farther than that, to get to the grocery store. Most 20k races are 100 laps. I sure hope I'm wrong, but this format doesn't seem like a fan friendly one. It should be interesting to see, how many cars the winner passes to win the Feature. This isn't whine, it's constructive criticism. Who likes a time trial to checkers fast track?

On an opinionated racing site/forum, b!tching about people b!tching, gotcha.
Up in the air who my next “favorite” driver is. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normal”.

Fell asleep prior to the Mod heats......how was the track for racing?

I only watched one race, it was live streamed in ray bollinger facebook page, it's still on there for those that want to watch, lots of yellows.

cnbf, the same situation with carbon monoxide presented itself last year at the Indy Invitational. I was afraid the CO problem might rear it's ugly head at St. Louis, as well! Could be another very long night. If they're having CO problems just with qualifying one can only imagine how bad it could possibly be when they get 10 or 12 cars racing all at once. Hope they get it figured out for tonight.
We might be a very late arrival (or a very early Saturday morning arrival) at our rooms over at Du Quoin.

Anybody know what time they let spectators into the dome yesterday???
Stop b!tching!! We're racing in December. Life is good!

Nothing not to love about racing in December and January but when you have the St Louis health department periodically halting the racing action due to high carbon monoxide levels life becomes not so good.

Alot of tracks race in December

Seems like something like this would work better at a stadium like in Dallas or Arizona (of course in AZ you could just race outside in December), but a stadium that had a retractable roof you could crack at times and endzones that you could crack or leave open. I doubt Jerry Jones would ever let it happen, but if the right money came along probably. They usually do Supercross/Monster Jam/Bullriding back to back weekends in February/March so that they only have to haul the dirt in and out 1 time. Talk about an event this would be at a venue where you didn't have to worry about ventilation. You'd have 1,000 modifieds show up for that thing lol. Good thing about Dallas/Atlanta is that you can get a direct flight in there from nearly any spot in the free world.

Not 2.5 hours from my home they don't. I went to the disaster in Indy and didn't think twice about buying tickets for St. Louis the day they went on sale. I'm not at work and I can see and smell a race car on the track. Life is good.
