Jimmy Mars Bags $3,000 in Masters Late Model Opener at Cedar Lake Speedway!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars registered his first victory of the 2019 campaign last Thursday night, June 13 behind the wheel of his father-in-law's red #28 MB Customs Late Model in the opening night of the 20th edition of the 'Masters' at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin! Jimmy won his heat race in preliminary action and later led from flag-to-flag in the 40-lap headliner to bag the $3,000 top prize over Chad Mahder, Pat Doar, Steve Laursen, and Jake Timm. After unfortunately getting crashed out of his heat race on Friday evening and missing out on the $5,000 to win Late Model feature, Jimmy rebounded in a strong way on Saturday in the 'Masters' finale. The Menomonie, Wisconsin star won his heat race, started from the pole position in the $10,000 to win main event, and finished in the second spot behind only victor Pat Doar.

Along with the Late Model, Jimmy also entered a trio of United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) shows from June 13-15 that helped make up the annual 'Masters' weekend. On Thursday night in the $3,000 to win opener, Jimmy won his heat race, led laps 18-37 of the 40-lapper, and crossed underneath the checkered flag second behind only race winner and fellow MB Customs driver Dustin Sorensen. At CLS on Friday evening, Jimmy advanced up to third in his loaded heat race and later climbed to sixth in the $5,000 to win feature event, which was pushed back to late Saturday afternoon due to a heavy downpour. In the regularly scheduled show on Saturday that boasted a $10,000 winner's check, the popular driver known as "The Iceman" won his heat race and led laps 20-26 and 28-39 of the USMTS finale before earning another runner-up performance behind only Ryan Gustin. “It was a pretty good weekend for us – getting a win in front of the area fans is always fun,” quoted Mars this week via telephone. “We had three runner-up finishes and led a lot of laps, so if we could have capitalized on that and got a few more victories it would have been a great weekend. I’m looking forward to getting back to Super Late Model racing this weekend and heading down to Granite City and Fairbury. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we can get both Summer Nationals shows in the books.”

The Mars Racing team is scheduled to venture south this upcoming weekend (June 21-22) for a pair of DIRTcar Summer Nationals contests, which will both carry a $10,000 payday. On Friday night, Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois will take center stage by hosting a “Hell Tour” showdown, while Fairbury American Legion Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois will do the same on Saturday evening. Jimmy has seven career DIRTcar Summer Nationals triumphs on his Hall of Fame resume and will be looking to add to that number this weekend!
