Lucas Oil/GIS Superbowl of Racing cancelled
Well Golden Isles has cancelled their Lucas Oil Superbowl of Racing in Jan. Say too many covid cases in the region. So the first of the Speedweeks races to fall. I’m sure there will be more.
-
I wonder if it has anything to do with what I heard on the news ? This bl*ws big time. Here we go again.

Dont believe one second of it! If you have noticed, the owners had cut the reg season to once a month!
That doesnt fare well with paying customers or race teams!
ps......Im 75 miles from the joint, thats bs!

I’m 15 miles from GIS. They haven’t raced there since the Superbowl of Racing in February 2020 but yes i agree. I think there is more to it. Rumor is Lucas wanted to buy it from the Langdales and they wouldn’t sell it.
-
Amazing, they would buy it and sink all that money into it and not race!
One of the rumors I hear, is Frankie is interested in it again. His business has seemed to recover very nicely in the past few years!

More Lucas teams to WWSO?
-
Easier money and way less work to just rent the track out to any teams that want to test.

The vaccine will be out by then...so there's definitely more to the story.

The general public will not be getting vaccinated till March-April at the earliest.

I had heard a few years ago, that the people that own the track, also own the huge port lots that are near the track. Is this still the case? It was told at that time, that the money made off of port lots was absolutely stupid amounts of cash. They weren't even wanting to keep the track open at that time either. If any of this is true, I can't believe it's still held these races year in, and year out.

Like most deaths in the US......this isn't covid related......has to be more to this story.
Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

Wonder if another track might try to slide in there and grab these races?

Would be a great opportunity for Putnam County to grab a race since they are reopening. Or maybe Screven, Waycross, or even North Florida? I know it is unlikely but would he nice for all the guys that are already at Volusia the weekend before.

xfactor, is Putnam County in the same configuration as it was back when Volusia was asphalt? We went up there from Daytona several times back then and we were not all that enthralled with the looooong straights and hairpin tight turns.

There are port lots on the same property as the track however there were no cars there when I was last there and I had heard that they had lost the contract for it.

Not sure exactly..it was closed last year and a new roofing contractor bought it. Making a lot of changes and putting a little money into it. Holding their first practice night soon.

They had it today!
They brought in new clay and widened the turns some!
One of my favorite tracks when Bob Potter bought it and completely redone the whole facility. It was first class then and had some awesome weekly racing!
