What does it say when only 20 cars show up for $25k to win?
Think about this for a minute. What does it say about this sport we all love when only 20 cars show up for a $25k to win event?
You can give me all the excuses like "I need to stay home and get ready for the dream", "the track is too big" "its too hard on equipment".
The WVMS promoter schedules a race on an off Lucas weekend and still nobody shows up.
Back in the day racers would travel overnight between races to go chase the money. Show up at a track thrashing on the car before hot laps, then head back home and get ready for that next weekend of the same.
I get it, the track is too big most as will argue but to me it goes deeper than that. Is 25k to win one day show/possible $35k not enough money anymore?
sure makes me shake my head!

I didn't bother to look or think about it, but how much did last place pay?

It says absolutely nothing about the sport and everything about the track. There are examples that support the opinion there are issues, but WVMS is not a great example.
On Saturday, we raced with 1 car that left WVMS, 2 that are a half hour tow, and many more that are a 1 hr tow.

I actually thought 22 cars at Plymouth was kind of disappointing considered there was 33 the night before. Not even Casebolt went. He was at Atomic.
2021 race count
6 events

Gotta shorten WVMS if they want to attract bigger car counts
-
Masters, Absolutely not. It’s a late model problem, not a track problem.
Is it too big for cars now? Yes. But that’s only because the cars got out of hand. WVMS had no problem getting cars from 1985-2008. There was around 140 late models for the DTWC at WVMS in 2000. That tells me it’s a car problem and not a track problem. That’s not to say that WVMS shouldn’t be shortened, it may have to be if they don’t reel the prices of these cars in.

Why does WVMS always get boarded up? There seems to be a problem to me.

Always been boarded up? I don’t think that’s very accurate.
You’re not digging into the question far enough. Why do you think cars stopped coming. The generic answer is it’s too big, but why is it too big NOW?
-
Why was it shortened?
It's too big now for the same reason it was too big before.

You’re not wrong but it wasn’t TOO big until 2008ish...
Wonder why that is?

Cars make traction and never get out of the gas there.

wrong class. pay the mods

WVMS is too hard on equipment to draw cars

Did a little measuring.
Eldora, Knoxville, and WVMS.
Measured from the outer wall between 1&2 to the outer wall in 3&4.
Eldora- .17mile
Knoxville .20mile
WV. .23mile
It's the increased length in straightway speed that's pushing the motors to the limit. WV is like a paperclip compared to say Eldora or most 1/2 mile tracks.

i'll guess that if you don't qualify well, it's hard to make it up in the heat and then feature. a fast car can move up threw the field if he started in the back, but once he catches up to the other fast cars, that track is to fast to move up much more. it just becomes follow the leader.
-
I wonder how many guys that ran WV this past weekend, (JD, Scott, Moran,Erb) will run the same motor at Eldora that they pushed to the limits just days ago. I'd like to know my stuff is fresh for the upcoming race's at Eldora.

Being the weekend before double Dreams also contributed to a lack of cars.

Lame excuse! How many cars at the Dream will walk away with 25k in one night?
I miss the days when racers were men!
