Lately been watching more dirt racing than have in 20+ years. Don't go to track anymore. Blind & deaf enough. Soooo...streaming it is. See an epidemic of tracks with very poor to no equipment to get cars off the track after wrecks. Have to admit, i'm a bit of a soft touch so easy to volunteer somebody else's time. I'm absolutely certain every track out there has SOMEBODY racing at that track that's a salvage yard owner, plumber, electrician with a bucket truck, etc, etc. Track repairs CAN get done cheap/freeish.
So I propose...quit being cheap bastards complaining about your local track being half broke down and donate your time/equipment on race nights. Say you have an old wrecker that's maybe not worth fixing to make it road legal. Ok...salvage yard guy has a wrecker, LS engines, transmissions, etc. Racers are mechanics. Or mechanic adjacent. Might not be 100% legit but for dragging cars off the track, AWESOME. Put something or better yet 3 somethings together. Doesn't have to be pretty. ratrods are cool now. Just make it dependable & relatively safe.
Get a group of maybe 10 guys together and build a wrecker. SOMEBODY in the group knows another somebody that has a trailer they can borrow one or two nights on weekends to tow the wrecker to the track every week. Cause unfortunately, in the world we live in, leave it at track, somebody will steal it or vandalize it.
Put XYZ Towing on a billboard for advertising. Or XYZ Salvage Yard. Bills Electrical that fixes the lights in the in-field. You get the idea. Make the largest business that provided the parts a sponsor of the track. Theoretically be a one timeish expense.
Ok...I started this fantasy so now lets hear you all tear it apart.
