You could buy a gallon of gas for 28 cents,,,,,you could also get into the race pit area for $4. But the feature only paid $35 to win. Now that ratio is 8:1...Today you pay $25 to get in and get paid $150,,what happened? That figures out to be 6:1.
Remember when you paid $55 for a wide Mickey Thompson tire? You could run that thing for 3 yrs. Now you pay $115 and get 3 nights.
Remember when we put together a 327 for about $200 and ran 3 yrs. Now we spend ????$ and run 1 year.
Remember when you paid .28 for gas and now it is $6 a gallon? Race gas that is.
Wow ,,,how times have changed,for the better? Maybe for keeping up with times,but the local racer has been suffering for years. We should feel lucky to have a track to race at. We should feel lucky to have the freedom to do what we want,,Thank You to all the Veterans for this.
Remember when we raced weekly at tracks that never had a sanctioning body,,hell we never even heard of one? Every one could go to a track near their home and race without an argument about their cars.
Oh yeah,,remember when we used to tow our car to the races with a "dinasour" of a tow bar? Tail lights? Who needed those?

back when guys cut up 69 camaros for stock cars.

in the late 60's early 70's grandpa bill and uncle jerry would go to the chevy dealership and get a 350 hp 327 shortblock for 300bucks. you run it till it blew and then go buy another one. the tires were bricks and the racing was great.

But I do remember my first car at 16 was a 79 Pontiac firebird with the 455ci
heck it passed everything but the gas station and pump gas was 69 cents then

I wish I grew up and raced in those days. Where is racing gas still only six dollars? We pay eight bucks a gallon for Sunoco 114 in North Carolina.
