SLMR Malvern Bank series acquired the IMCA Deery Series late last year.https://www.slmrseries.com/malvern-b...ummer-series/I believe the 500th race was supposed to be ran last year, but was rained out. It was ran this year instead.

Last night was the 6th attempt at running the 500th Deery race going back to last year. It's been a great series...miss it already.

Thanks to the Deery group for the many years of sponsoring the series. What will Darrell DeFrance do to top his record of never missing a Deery race...ever? Pretty fantastic record.

SLMR East is heads and shoulders better than the Deery Series.

Aikey, Webb, DeFrance ... wow. I feel like I’ve known those names forever; going way back to the 80’s/90’s — because of series like the Deery Brothers. I was always excited when these guys showed up for the World 100. I may have seen them at other big shows — maybe Pennsboro?, but I loved seeing drivers like this, who I’d only read about before.

Didn’t IMCA have an even earlier sponsor before Deery? Was it originally a NASCAR sanction? Was it Busch?

Series was first sponsored by Red Baron Pizza and then J & J Steel. NASCAR had the Busch All Star Tour, another great regional series.

I remember Kenny Schrader showing up at Davenport to run (he was sponsored by Red Baron at the time), it was really cool to race against a 'cup' guy at that time. Michael Waltrip also did an appearance at 34 Raceway around the same time (Country Time sponsorship). Cool thing was he wanted his picture with me (I looked like I was 13 but was running the late model)- I move south and 25 years later he stops to buy girl scout cookies off my daughter and asks to take a picture with her (he had no idea of who she was or who I am for that matter)-small world at times.

Kind of cool that Aikey wins the last race 33 years after his first series championship. only thing better might have been a Double D win.

I'm not sure what's more impressive. Being at all 500 events or being at all 500 events, winning 14 races but not winning a championship.
    2020 race count:
    1/2 of an event

The legendary 56W still out there on the track. Not many better humans than the legendary Gary Webb!

Thanks Klem. Some might look down their noses as it can be thought of as a limited spec program. Yeah they might be couple tenths slower at some tracks but the balance through the field and solid car counts were strong points. A Deery race at Quincy is still one of the best late model races I’ve seen. Recall Toland, Burgtorf, Neal, and Aikey swapping positions all race long. No sliders, just hard, clean, side by side, nose to tail stuff.
    I hate time trials.
