Smoky Mountain Speedway Host Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Series Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki on Friday July 28

MARYVILLE, TN – July 24, 2017 – Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN is set to return to action with another huge night of dirt track racing competition as the popular 4/10 mile dirt track will host the Ray Cook-promoted Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV on Friday July 28 in an event that will pay $5,300 to the winner. Also on the racing card for Friday July 28 will be Limited Late Models paying $1,500 to win and Modified Street paying $800 to win.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series will contest the Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki event, which honors long-time race fan and Smoky Mountain Speedway supporter Vicki Duck of Rutledge, TN who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 but still manages to attend races every weekend and is a strong supporter of Billy Ogle, Jr., but she enjoys all the drivers and all the races. The event will see the Super Late Models in a full program of practice, time trails, heat races, and the 51 lap, $5,300 to win/$530 to start. Also in competition will be the Limited Late Models racing for $1,500 to win and Modified Streets racing for $800 to win.
As part of the Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki event, all race fans and race teams are encouraged to wear pink to show support for Vicki and there will be also be event shirts made for this event to show support for Vicki and her battle and those pink shirts can be purchased for $20. There will also be decals for the drivers race cars and other novelty items will also be available for purchase.
The event will mark the fifth ever visit by the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series to Smoky Mountain Speedway, with previous series events at the track being won by Mike Marlar (2012), Chris Madden (2013, 2014), Randy Weaver (2015), while Mother Nature won the 2016 event.
The Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki event will mark the seventh event of the 2017 season. Previous event winners at Smoky Mountain Speedway in 2017 include Dale McDowell (April 1), Brandon Sheppard (April 29), Brandon Overton (May 13), Tommy Kerr (June 3), Donald McIntosh (June 17), and Jimmy Owens (July 8).
Activities for the Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki event will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m. and the tier parking and general admission areas will open at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. and practice will begin at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the Friday July 28 event in the general admission be $20, tier parking will be $25, and a pit pass will be $35.
