Luke Cooper Victorious in 44th Annual Shrine Race at Laurens County Speedway to Pocket $3,000 Payday

(LAURENS, SOUTH CAROLINA) Luke Cooper, of Woodruff, South Carolina, became the eighth different winner in as many Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series events this year by emerging victorious in Tuesday’s 44th Annual Shrine Race at Laurens County Speedway! Luke, who laid down the second quickest time overall during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying at the Laurens, South Carolina oval, started the 30-lap headliner from the outside of the front row. He then grabbed the point from polesitter David Smith on the eighth circuit and paced the talented field for the final twenty-three laps.

At the checkers in the midweek race that supported the Laurens County Shrine Club, Luke beat third-starting Preston Dimsdale, early leader David Smith, Wyatt Coffey, and Jasper Brown to pocket the $3,000 first place prize money. Colby Cannon, series point leader Dawson Lowe, thirteenth-starting Griffin Smith, Shaun Sise, and Kevin Fisher rounded out the top ten. A total of thirteen competitors signed into the pit area at Laurens County Speedway for round eight of the Red Clay 602 Late Model Series schedule.

For winning the pole with his quick time of 15.612 seconds during qualifying, David Smith, of Inman, South Carolina, earned an extra $200 courtesy of Billings Brothers Autism Awareness and Knowles Race Parts and Bodies. Race winner Luke Cooper was also awarded an extra $100 for leading lap eleven courtesy of Billings Brothers Autism Awareness.

Following the Shrine Race, Dawson Lowe now finds himself atop of the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series point standings by 68 markers over second place Justin Howard. Shaun Sise, Kevin Fisher, and Hunter Atkinson round out the top five in series points heading into the next event on Saturday, June 28 at Wythe Raceway. A $2,000 winner’s check will be on the line at the end of the month at the picturesque Rural Retreat, Virginia speedplant.
