David Smith Becomes First Repeat Red Clay 602 Late Model Series Winner Saturday at Harris Speedway

(RUTHERFORDTON, NORTH CAROLINA) In the first nine Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series shows in 2025, there were nine different winners. That streak was broken on Saturday night at Harris Speedway, as David Smith reached victory lane for the second time this season with the tour. David knocked down the second quickest lap in Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying and later started the 25-lap feature event from the outside of the front row. The Inman, South Carolina standout then got the hole shot at the drop of the green flag in the headliner and led each circuit to pocket the $2,000 first place prize money.

David beat runner-up Kendal Tucker to the checkered flag by one second to record the victory at the Rutherfordton, North Carolina oval. Kenny Collins picked off two competitors to round out the podium in third, while Billy Rushton also passed two cars to place fourth in the final rundown. Polesitter Preston Dimsdale slipped back to fifth in the lone A-Main of the year for the Red Clay 602 Late Model Series in the Tar Heel State.

A total of nineteen 602 Late Model competitors piled into the pit area at Harris Speedway for round ten of the Red Clay Series. Billy Rushton went quickest in hot laps with a fast time of 16.487 seconds, while Preston Dimsdale earned the pole in qualifying with his quick lap of 15.939 seconds. Ten drivers completed all 25 circuits in the $2,000 to win main event.

The Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series will roll into the states of Tennessee and Georgia this week for a pair of midweek shows - both of which will shell out a $2,000 payday. Up first will be a visit to I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee on Tuesday, July 15. The series will then return to action on Thursday, July 17 at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia. Both programs will accompany the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series and will be broadcast LIVE on FloRacing.
