Charles Devine Dazzles in Independence Day Victory at Sugar Creek Raceway
(BLUE RIDGE, GEORGIA) Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday, the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series took part in a special July 4th program at Sugar Creek Raceway and it was Charles Devine that dazzled in picking up the feature victory! Charles knocked down the second quickest time in Group B during the qualifying session to earn the outside of the second row for the start of the 30-lap headliner. The Murphy, North Carolina ace then grabbed control of the field on the thirteenth circuit and led the rest of the way to collect the $2,500 first place prize money.
Finishing 1.531 seconds behind at the unfurling of the checkered flag was runner-up Dawson Lowe, who earned Fast Time honors and led the opening twelve laps from the outside of the front row. Polesitter Bryson Hickman ran amongst the leaders throughout the distance and rounded out the podium in third. Brad Thomas qualified well and finished fourth in the final rundown, while Bo Moorhouse picked off six racecars en route to a strong fifth place performance.
A total of 20 Red Clay 602 Late Model Series competitors were in the Blue Ridge, Georgia pit area on Independence Day. Cooper Twiggs knocked down the fastest lap overall during RaceDay Safety Hot Laps with his time of 16.059 seconds. Dawson Lowe then turned the quickest lap during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying with a time of 15.805 seconds. The feature lineup was set solely through time trials with each competitor gaining access directly into the A-Main.
So far in 2026, there have been eight different winners in the first nine series events. Wyatt Coffey (Screven Motor Speedway), Cody Overton (Screven Motor Speedway), Bryson Hickman (I-75 Raceway), Nick Deitz (Laurens County Speedway), Chris Woods (Travelers Rest Speedway), Booger Brooks (North Georgia Speedway), Charles Devine (Sugar Creek Raceway), and Dawson Lowe (North Georgia Speedway, Cherokee Speedway) have all secured Red Clay 602 Late Model Series triumphs.
Lowe currently sits atop of the series point standings by thirty-six markers over Cass Fowler with Jim Gray, John Snow, and Bryson Hickman rounding out the top five. Up next for the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series will be a quartet of $2,000 to win events from July 18-24 in the Peach State. Accompanying the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series, the 602s will compete on July 18 at Screven Motor Speedway, on July 19 at Toccoa Raceway, on July 21 at Senoia Raceway, and on July 24 at North Georgia Speedway.
