Cody Overton Keeps Rolling with Southern Nationals; Wins Third Straight at Swainsboro Raceway

(SWAINSBORO, GEORGIA) At Swainsboro Raceway on Sunday night, Cody Overton continued his domination of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco by picking up his third straight feature win! Cody earned Fast Time honors during the qualification session, which locked him into the pole position for the 40-lap headliner. After narrowly besting outside polesitter Ethan Dotson on the first circuit, Cody led the rest of the feature distance to pocket the $7,553 winner’s check.

Dotson, who is a regular on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, pressured Overton during the waning laps of the contest before finishing 0.544 seconds behind at the unfurling of the checkered flag. Wil Herrington rebounded from Saturday’s disappointment at Cochran to round out the podium in third. Dalton Cook turned in another strong showing with the Southern Nationals in finishing fourth, while series point leader Donald McIntosh grabbed the final spot inside of the top five.

“It’s awesome, this is home right here,” exclaimed the winning Overton in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane at the Swainsboro, Georgia oval. “They’ve definitely been working on the racetrack for a long time now and I think it’s back. I thought I gave it away there in the last two laps. I saw Ethan (Dotson) and I was going to have to blow the deck out or something (to keep the lead). I didn’t even care at that point. But we got it done and I’ve got to thank everyone associated with this team!”

Cody Overton steered a Triple B Motorsports Parts for sale Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Collins Brothers Towing, Budweiser, M&M Painting & Construction, Code Red Rentals & Sales, Granite Grading & Hauling, The Kicklighter Company, M&S Concrete, S&S Fishing & Rental, MECO of Augusta, Tribble Electric, Morley Enterprises, Supply Chain Management, LaRussa Plumbing, Boswell Oil Company, and Bilstein Shocks.

A total of 28 Super Late Model competitors returned to Swainsboro Raceway on Sunday for the rain-postponed event from Friday night. Ethan Dotson turned the quickest lap during MRP Fantasy Racing hot laps, while Cody Overton topped the speed chart in FK Rod Ends qualifying with a time of 15.020 seconds. The pair of B-Mains were won by Joseph Joiner and Benji Hicks, while Mathew Porter and Landen Zakalowski utilized series provisionals. Dale Timms and Alex Vance both took use of emergency provisionals to start shotgun on the feature field.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco will take Monday, July 20 off, but will return to the grind on Tuesday, July 21 at Senoia Raceway. The Senoia, Georgia venue will host the annual running of the ‘Roscoe Smith Classic’ and a $7,544 payday will be up for grabs. Previous series winners at Senoia include Donald McIntosh ('17), Brandon Overton ('20), Carson Ferguson ('22), Ashton Winger ('23), Michael Page ('24), and Ashton Winger ('25).
