USCS OUTLAW “DUEL AT THE DUCK†2013 HEADLINES RACING ACTION
AT DUCK RIVER RACEWAY PARK ON SATURDAY NIGHT (4/20/13)
Atlanta, GA – April 16, 2013 - Wild and exciting winged Outlaw sprint car racing will headline the inaugural “Duel at the Duck†racing program at Duck River Race Park (formerly known as Duck River Speedway) this Saturday night, April 20th . The United Sprint Car Series "Outlaw Thunder" Tour winged sprint cars (www.uscsracing.com) will roar into the high-banked 1/4-mile middle Tennessee red-clay oval for their first-ever visit in seasons to historic Duck River Raceway Park.
This race is the one and only USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour event visit scheduled during the 2013 season to Duck River Raceway Park. The race will award National Championship points as well as points in the USCS Mid South regional series standings. The USCS Mid South region normally contests races in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
The special event is expected to bring top winged Outlaw sprint car drivers from at least six states to the track. The exotic fire breathing, alcohol burning, 700 horsepower open wheel cars weight just 1,300 pounds, and are pound for pound the World’s most powerful short track race cars. The cars will literally fly around the track surface at speeds over 100 M.P.H. It is not uncommon to see USCS sprint cars popping "wheelies" or doing wheel stands because of the brute force of their engines and their huge 16-inch wide Hoosier rear racing tires.
Saturday night's Outlaw sprint car action will feature a full program of racing in the Outlaw sprint cars that includes test and tune hot laps followed by time trial qualifying for the winged sprint cars. The evening's first sprint car race, the Hoosier Speed Dash that showcases the top six cars from the previous USCS main event. Next up will be qualifying heat races with the line-ups set by time trial positions. The evening’s grand finale will be the 30-lap “Duel at the Duck†2013 USCS A-main event.
Most of the Duck River Raceway Park weekly racing divisions will join the traveling winged sprint car series for a full night of family entertainment including qualifying events and over 100 laps of feature races. Those divisions include the Super Late Models, 2 Barrel Late Models, Modified Street, Street Stock, Outlaw Pony, Pure Pony and Rookie Pony. There will be a full program of racing action in each division.
Ten-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee and 2012 National points leader, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas head the entry list for the Duck River Raceway Park USCS Outlaw Thunder event. Gray and Crawley are both among the top twenty-five drivers in the Nation in feature wins over the past 6 years with well over 60 feature wins each. Crawley has won over forty USCS contests over the past four seasons. He and Gray are both threats to win on any given night. Crawley had fifteen USCS feature wins during the 2012 season.
Additionally entered at the top of the list is two-time 2013 and five-time 2012 feature winner Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas who currently leads the USCS National and Mid South Thunder regional point standings. Hagar was the series 2006 Rookie of the Year. Currently only two points separate Hagar, who is the point’s leader and Tim Crawley in second place in the National point standings.
Three-time USCS feature winner, nineteen year-old female sprint car star, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee is entered. Turpen was the runner-up for the USCS National Championship in the 2010 and 2011 title chases. She is currently in fourth place in the National standings. Turpen was the 2010 USCS National Rookie of the Year. She is only the second woman to ever reach the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane in the seventeen year history of USCS competition. She is the only woman to ever do that more than once.
Turpen is expected to be joined by several other talented young drivers who are entered including Dalton Davis from Millington, Tennessee, who is 6th in the National standings. Four 2013 Rookie of the Year contenders Tyler Smith from Olive Branch, Mississippi plus Tristan Tidmore and his brother Taylor Tidmore from Hernando, Mississippi and Jake Roach from Sardis, Tennessee are all competing for USCS rookie of the Year honors and are entered.
Expected to join those young guns on the entry list are at least two other past USCS Rookie of the Year drivers who are had very successful 2012 seasons. Those are 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee who is currently in 3rd place in the Mid South point standings and finished in third place in the 2012 National standings and Jerod Roller from Hernando, Mississippi who was the 2010 USCS Mid South regional series Rookie of the Year. Also entered is 2012 USCS Rookie of the Year, Jeff Willingham from Ripley, Mississippi and 2008 USCS Southern Thunder regional series Rookie of the Year, Lee Moore from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Other notable USCS entries include: young guns Brad Bowden from Hernando, Mississippi, Curt Terrell from Bartlett, Tennessee, Justin Webb from Drummonds, Tennessee, Jim Perricone from San Antonio, Texas, Nick DeFeo from Woodstock, Georgia. Sprint car veteran drivers Ronny Howard from Nesbit, Mississippi and ageless Ray Bugg from Iuka, Mississippi are also expected to compete.
