Steel Head Championship presented by Vic Hill at Volunteer Speedway on Friday August 16th
MOSHEIM, TN (August 11, 2013)—In a few short weeks, Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN will be hosting the Inaugural Steel Head Late Model Championship presented by Vic Hill on Friday Night August 16th. The race will pay $5,000 to win / $250 to start the 40-lapper.
The Steel Head Late Models will utilize an open front tire rule with a punch 55 rule on the rear tires. The weight is 2,350 lbs. minimum with an eight inch spoiler. The Crate Cars that compete with the Steel Heads will have an open tire rule and a 2,250 lbs. minimum weight rule with an eight inch spoiler. No entry fee will be charged for this event. Gasoline only will be allowed, no alcohol or nitrous oxide.
The top-16 cars will be locked into the 24 car main from Qualifying. There will be Last Chance Heat Races to fill the remaining spots in the field. The Modified Hobby and Mini Stocks will be the support classes for the evening.
There will be an open practice held on Tuesday Night August 13th from 7:00 until 10:00 pm for any drivers wanting to come and shake down their machines before the big event on the 16th.
As a bonus, the top-three Crate Late Models in the field will receive the following: The highest finishing Crate Late Model will receive $300. The second-highest finishing Crate will receive $200 and the third highest Crate will receive $100. Any car not making the field of 24 will receive $40 tow money.
Adult General Admission will be $20.00 with $18.00 for senior citizens. Ages 11-17 in the stands will be $5.00 with children 10 and under admitted free. Pit Passes will be $35.00.

Directions to Volunteer Speedway: South on Interstate 81 from Tennessee/Virginia state lines, take Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville), then turn right onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Look for track entrance approximately 200 yards on left. North on Interstate 81 from I-81/I-40 split (East of Knoxville, TN), take Exit 23, then turn left onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Continue underneath the interstate over-pass and track entrance approximately 300 yards ahead on left.
Volunteer Speedway hosts special events throughout each racing season including Ray Cook’s Spring & Southern Nationals Series, the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series, the Southern Regional Racing Series and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The track is also home to the Spring Thaw and Scorcher events.
