Rodney Sanders Grabs Gopher 50 Modified Cash

Happy, Texas (07/10/17) – Rodney Sanders piloted his Wichita Tank Racing #20 DriveWFX.com/ Swan Energy/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified to the $5,000 winner’s payday on Saturday night at Deer Creek Speedway during the annual Gopher 50.

He added a Top-10 finish in his Late Model.

“Our Modified was flawless from the time that we unloaded, and I was able to pick up the big win against a really stout field of cars,” Sanders said. “We were able to lead several laps early in the Super Late Model feature, but as the race went along we were just a tick off. It would’ve been awesome to get both wins, but we were still very happy with our performance.”

Pulling double duty behind the wheel of both his Super Late Model and Open Wheel Modified, Rodney Sanders visited Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) on Saturday night.
With 36 World of Outlaw Craftsman Late Model Series entries on hand for the Bigelow Homes Gopher 50, Rodney followed up the second-fastest time in his qualifying group with a heat race victory in his Mesilla Valley Transportation #20 Wichita Tank Racing/ Swan Energy entry. After receiving the pole position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main via the redraw, Sanders led the first 22 laps of the feature. The second half of the event found him battling the finale as he slipped five spots in the 50-lapper to place 6th.

Against a field of 41 USRA Modifieds, Sanders led the night off with a heat race win, positioning him on the pole for the feature. Jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag, Rodney Sanders led wire-to-wire, capturing his fifth win of the season. Jason Cummins, Zack VanderBeek, Cory Mahder, and Keith Foss completed the Top-5 finishers.

Sanders will then tentatively enter Thursday’s $8,000-to-win, WoO event at Hibbing Raceway (Hibbing, Minnesota).

He will resume point’s racing on Saturday night, when he enters the annual Diamond Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri). The $12,000-to-win event will be co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA).
