Rodney Sanders Wins Modified Nationals Prelim; Knoxville Next
Happy, Texas (09/12/17) –Rodney Sanders registered a $3,000 win in his Wichita Tank Racing #20 DriveWFX.com/ Swan Energy/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified on Friday night during preliminary action for the 6th annual Dahl Auto Plaza Modified Nationals.
On Thursday night Rodney Sanders traveled to Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) for the opening round of the 6th annual Dahl Auto Plaza Modified Nationals. With 40 Open Wheel Modifieds on hand, Sanders dropped five spots in his heat race logging a 9th-place finish. Transferring into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature, Rodney secured his spot in the finale with a 5th-place outing. Rolling off 23rd on the grid for the $2,000-to-win A-Main, Sanders charged through the field 14 spots reeling in a 9th-place finish.
After starting 6th in his heat race on Friday, Rodney gained four spots, notching a runner-up finish behind R.C. Whitwell. Earning the 2nd-starting position for the feature, Sanders overtook Jason Cummins on the opening lap and held off the field throughout the remaining 34 circuits to capture his eighth win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Cummins, Lucas Schott, Adam Hensel, and Dustin Sorensen completed the Top-5 finishers.
Wrapping up the Modified Nationals on Saturday, Sanders had already locked his spot into the $4,000-to-win finale via his performances on Thursday and Friday. Posting a Top-5 in the 40-lapper, Rodney landed a 5th-place finish behind Dustin Sorensen, Jake Timm, R.C. Whitwell, and Lucas Schott.
“It was a pretty solid weekend for our team against a tough field of cars,†Sanders noted. “Mississippi Thunder Speedway is one of my favorite places, and I always enjoy racing there.â€

Rodney will return to the driver’s seat of his Wichita Tank Racing #20 Swan Energy Super Late Model this weekend – September 14-16 – as he travels to the legendary Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) to compete in the 14th annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals. On Thursday and Friday, $6,000-to-win programs will be contested, while Saturday will see a $40,000 top prize on the line for the winner of the 100-lapper. The entire weekend will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).
