Dustin Strand Surges for Wild West Shootout Finale Win
Grand Forks, North Dakota (01/17/18) – To say that Dustin Strand’s 2018 endeavors at the Wild West Shootout was a struggle would be a giant understatement.
The pilot of the RHRSwag.com #71 Flagstaff Nissan and Subaru/ Bemidji Marine/ Millenium Chassis Modified encountered far more than his fair share of bad luck. From random mechanical failures to crashes Strand experienced it all. However, he was able to end the miniseries on a high note with a $2,000 triumph in Sunday’s finale.
“You expect to battle some issues to start the year, but nothing could’ve prepared us for all of the curveballs that got thrown our way at the Wild West Shootout,†Strand said. “Nobody on our team gave up though, and we just remained positive and kept working our tails off. It paid off in the finale, and man did it feel great to end things on a high note.â€
Competing against talent-laden fields of competitors in an array of USRA Modified and X-Mod events throughout the six-race miniseries at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway, Strand had only managed a best finish of seventh heading into Sunday night’s $2,000-to-win finale.
Bringing the 12th annual Wild West Shootout to a close on Sunday, Dustin locked into the fourth-starting spot for the finale after charging to an 8-lap heat race victory.
With a daring slide job, Strand took the lead on a restart near the race’s midway point, and then went on to wire the field for the remainder of the event to capture the $2,000 payday. Alex Stanford, Stormy Scott, Shane Sabraski, and Lucas Schott completing the Top-5 finishers in the 25-lapper.
“We had a great car for the finale, and it was a major shot in the arm for our team to get the victory,†Strand noted. “We’re now focused on getting our cars and all of our great customer’s cars ready for a big 2018 season.â€
