Ross Camponovo Cashes in on First Victory Since 2013
Mississippi Racer Claims Top Honors in Winter Classic
Shelby, Mississippi (02/27/18) – Ross Camponovo’s last-minute decision on Saturday to enter the annual Winter Classic at Columbus Speedway in his C&C Transportation #18 Black Diamond Crate Late Model, ultimately led to his first feature win since 2013.
“We waffled back and forth all week on whether or not to go because the weather looked so iffy, but man I’m glad we decided to go,†Camponovo said with a laugh. “It’s been a long time since we won, and it was my first one with my girlfriend and my son there with me so that really meant a lot. We plan to race more this year than I’ve run the past few years combined, so it’s nice to get a win right off the bat.â€
With wet weather scattered across the area, Ross Camponovo kicked off his 2018 season in the Crate Late Model ranks on Saturday afternoon at Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) during the annual Winter Classic at the 1/3-mile oval.
The Mississippi racer started his outing by laying down the fastest time in qualifying, which locked him into the pole position for the feature. Camponovo backed up his qualifying performance by cruising to his first win of season in the feature. Justin McRee, Seth McCormack, John Polasini, and Jeff Young chased Camponovo across the finish line.
