Rodney Sanders Races to First Victory of 2018
USMTS Triple Header Up Next for “The Rocketâ€
Happy, Texas (05/01/18) – Rodney Sanders finally shook the bad luck off his back and took his Wichita Tank Racing #20 DriveWFX.com/ Swan Energy MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified to Victory Lane on Saturday night.
The $3,325 win took Sanders back to his roots. It came at Amarillo’s Route 66 Motor Speedway, which is where he cut his teeth as a racecar driver.
“We’ve had a pretty good car every night this year, but we just haven’t been able to get over the hump,†Sanders noted. “The way our luck has been I hated to see the caution fly on the white-flag lap, but luckily it didn’t keep me from grabbing the victory. Any win is special but to come to where it all began at Amarillo and get the win is really special.
“Even though we haven’t had the best of luck my team and my sponsors have continued to support and believe in me, so this win is definitely dedicated to them.â€
Rodney Sanders headed to West Texas Raceway (Lubbock, Texas) on Friday evening as he resumed his 2018 campaign with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). Improving two positions in his heat race, Sanders recorded a third-place finish, which locked him into the 11th-starting position for the A-Main.
Breaking into the Top-10, Rodney gained two spots in the feature, logging a ninth-place outing.
The following night at Route 66 Motor Speedway (Amarillo, Texas) – for the ninth annual Amarillo Ambush – Rodney advanced through the field seven positions in his heat race, reeling in an 8-lap victory.
Earning the third-starting position for the feature, Rodney led wire-to-wire en route to his first win of the season and a $3,325 payday. Cade Dillard, Jake O’Neil, Johnny Scott and Stormy Scott completed the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.
Sunday night brought 32 USMTS entries to Enid Speedway (Enid, Oklahoma) for the second annual Oklahoma Spring Nationals. Holding his spot throughout his heat race, Sanders logged a third-place finish, positioning him 13th on the starting grid for the $2,500-to-win A-Main.
Breaking into the Top-5, Rodney gained eight spots to place fifth behind Lucas Schott, Ryan Gustin, Dereck Ramirez, and Johnny Scott.

Rodney will continue action this weekend with the USMTS as he enters a trifecta of events in Arkansas and Oklahoma. On Friday night the tour rolls into I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) before moving to Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Oklahoma) on Saturday evening. The weekend wraps up at the tight confines of Creek County Speedway (Kellyville, Oklahoma) on Sunday evening.
