Jimmy Mars Sixth in Farmer City 74; Runner-Up at Rice Lake!
(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team started their May 11-12 weekend at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois on Friday, as the MARS Racing Series presided over the 'Farmer City 74.' A strong field of 35 competitors signed into the pit area at the 1/4-mile fairgrounds oval to vie for a $10,000 winner's check. Jimmy Mars stopped the clock fourth fastest in Group B during the qualifying session prior to finishing second in heat race action. Jimmy then moved past two competitors during the 74-lap headliner to secure a solid sixth place effort behind only winner Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, Brian Shirley, Tim Manville, and Devin Gilpin.
Following a rain-out early in the day at Fairbury (IL) American Legion Speedway on Saturday, the #28 team bolted to Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Jimmy entered the $2,000 to win WISSOTA Late Model show at his home state facility. The Menomonie native placed fourth in his heat race before advancing up to second in the A-Main – from his twelfth starting spot – to finish behind only victor Steve Laursen. Next up for Mars Racing will be a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series showdowns in the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota on May 18-19. Up first will be a visit on Friday to 141 Speedway in Maribel, Wisconsin for a $12,000 to win weekend opener. Another $12,000 top prize will then be on the line on Saturday in the ‘NAPA North Star Nationals’ at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
