Rodney Sanders Scores Career Win in Modified Masters
$40,000 Payday Marks Richest Payday of Texas Racer’s Career

Happy, Texas (06/19/18) – Rodney Sanders dominated the second annual Modified Masters on Saturday night at Wisconsin’s Cedar Lake Speedway in his Wichita Tank Racing #20 DriveWFX.com/ Swan Energy MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

The Texas racer pocketed $40,000 for his efforts, which marked the richest payday of his young career.

“I still don’t know that it’s fully sunk in that I won a race that paid $40,000-to-win,” Sanders laughed on Tuesday. “This definitely makes up for the slow start we’ve had to the year. We unloaded fast on Thursday, and we just kept getting better throughout the weekend. I can’t thank all of my team, sponsors, and fans enough for their support. This win is dedicated to all of them. Again, it’s all almost unbelievable, but I’m definitely thankful it’s not a dream!”

Kicking off the second annual Modified Masters weekend, Rodney Sanders invaded Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) on Thursday evening for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) sanctioned weekend.

With a stout field of 58 Open Wheel Modifieds entered into the Prelude to the Masters, Rodney advanced two spots in his heat to record a seventh-place finish. Sanders’ heat race performance left him short of locking into the finale, and as a result he was forced to run a B-main, where he edged his way into the show with the fourth-and-final transfer spot. Rolling off 24th for the feature, Rodney Sanders charged through the field 13 spots in the 40-lap affair, reeling in an 11th-place finish.

On Friday night with two rounds of heat races being contested, Sanders passed five cars in his first heat to notch a fourth-place finish. Starting the second heat in the fifth position, Rodney jumped up two spots to place third.

Via his heat race finishes, Sanders earned a spot into the 12-lap Pole Dash, where he gained one position to finish third.

Rolling off third for the 70-lap main event on Saturday evening, Rodney jumped into the lead on the opening lap. He led every circuit and held off late-race challenges from Dereck Ramirez and Cade Dillard to pick up his fifth win of the season and a $40,000 payday. Dillard, Ramirez, A.J. Diemel, and Jason Hughes rounded out the Top-5 finishers.

Rodney is currently third in the Hunt for the Casey's Cup point standings. For more results from this event as well as the latest standings, please visit www.USMTS.com .

This week will see Sanders hopping behind the wheel of a Mike Wedelstadt-prepared entry during the Clash at the Creek X at 141 Speedway (Francis Creek, Wisconsin). The IMCA Modified sanctioned event posts a $10,000 top prize. Preliminary action will be held on Wednesday, June 20, while B-Mains and the finale will be contested on Thursday night.
