Dereck Ramirez Finishes in Podium Spot During Modified Masters
Woodward, Oklahoma (06/20/18) – Dereck Ramirez enjoyed a strong weekend during the second annual Modified Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway. The driver of the Ramirez Motorsports #4r Hughes Race Car/Cornett Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified started on the pole position for the $40,000-to-win finale and went on to cross the finish line in the third spot.
“Anytime that you start on the pole and don’t win, it’s obviously a little bit of a letdown, but honestly we can’t complain about our weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway,†Ramirez said. “Thursday night wasn’t the greatest, but Friday night went really well, and we were a contender throughout the finale on Saturday night. I want to thank my family, my crew, my sponsors, and everyone who supports our team. I feel like we are getting closer and closer to scoring a big win.â€
Kicking off the second annual Modified Masters, Dereck Ramirez was one of 58 Open Wheel Modifieds competitors in action at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) on Thursday evening for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) sanctioned weekend.
Advancing one spot in his heat race, Ramirez recorded a sixth-place finish, which relegated him to the B-Main. Needing to place in the Top 4 to qualify for the opening night feature, Dereck passed four cars to place third. Rolling off 20th for the 40-lap feature, Dereck Ramirez improved four spots to finish 16th.
On Friday night with two rounds of heat races scheduled, Dereck streaked through the field seven spots in his first heat to pick up the win. Rolling off the grid fifth in his second heat, Ramirez jumped up one spot to place fourth.
Earning a spot in the 12-lap Pole Dash, Dereck Ramirez topped the 12-car field, which positioned him on the pole for the $40,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday night.
Racing in the Top 5 throughout the crown jewel finale, Dereck Ramirez ultimately landed a third-place finish behind Rodney Sanders and Cade Dillard with A.J. Diemel and Jason Hughes completing the Top-5 finishers.
Dereck sits in seventh in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey's Cup point standings. Complete results from this event are available at www.USMTS.com .
Ramirez Motorsports will take a break from action this weekend before heading north next weekend – June 28-30 – to compete in a trio of USMTS Modified events. Action opens with a Thursday night showdown at Nobles County Speedway (Worthington, Minnesota) before moving to Brown County Speedway (Aberdeen, South Dakota) on Friday night. The weekend draws to a close on Saturday night North Dakota’s Devil’s Lake Speedway.
