Dennis Erb, Jr. Continues Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Grind in Southeast this Weekend
(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) The Dennis Erb Racing team, who has been out on the road racing for the last week in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, just wrapped up a four-day, four-race stretch with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in the Buckeye State. A quartet of $12,000 to win shows were held from June 30-July 3 at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio, Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio, Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, and Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio. Dennis Erb, Jr. posted his best effort on Sunday night at Mansfield after qualifying third fastest in Group B and running third in heat race action. Dennis then improved three positions during the course of the ‘Freedom 50’ en route to a solid seventh place showing.
At Portsmouth on Saturday, Dennis was forced to switch to a back-up car following a heat race incident and utilized a provisional before climbing to fifteenth in the final rundown of the ‘Independence 50.’ In Monday’s annual running of the ‘Steel Valley 50’ at Sharon, Dennis placed sixth in his loaded heat race prior to claiming a seventeenth place performance in the caution-free, 50-lap headliner. On Tuesday in Zanesville, the Carpentersville, Illinois ace grabbed the fourth and final transfer spot through his heat race and later bagged a sixteenth place finish in the 50-lapper. Dennis currently finds himself tied for thirteenth in the heated LOLMDS point standings exiting the hectic stretch in Ohio. Following a day off to celebrate Independence Day on July 4 and to travel to the Southeast, the #28 team will return to racing action with the ultra-competitive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series later tonight, July 5 at Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A $10,000 top prize will be on the line tonight in the ‘Wayne Gray Sr. Memorial.’ A pair of $12,000 winner’s checks will then be up for grabs on Friday, July 6 in the 20th Annual ‘Grassy Smith Memorial’ at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina and on Saturday, July 7 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee in the ‘Mountain Moonshine Classic.’ More information concerning the LOLMDS Southeastern triple shot can be accessed by logging onto www.lucasdirt.com.
