Scott Bloomquist Tops Cherokee Speedway for 599th Career Win
Tri City Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway LOLMDS Action Up Next
Mooresburg, Tennessee (07/09/18) – Scott Bloomquist tallied up career win #599 on Friday night at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) behind the wheel of his Reece Monuments #0 New Direction Ag/ Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.
Scott scored his eighth win of the season after surging forward from the seventh-starting spot to score the $12,000 payday in the 20th annual Grassy Smith Memorial with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).
"We were good on the restarts and that helped," Bloomquist noted. "This is probably the best shape I have ever seen this track in. We could run low, middle, or the top. We went to the top there towards the end and I think that helped us out a lot. The top was the place to be especially getting around those lapped cars. I want to thank everyone who supports me on this racecar."
Thirty drivers took part in the event at the historic clay oval, and via a runner-up finish in his heat race, Scott earned the seventh-starting position for the 50-lap feature.
Scott methodically worked his way through the field before taking the lead from Josh Richards on lap 31. He held off a hard-charging Brandon Overton in the closing laps to get the win.
Josh Richards, Don O'Neal, and Dennis Erb Jr. completed the Top-5 finishers.
The triple header weekend was reduced to the single event after Fayetteville Motor Speedway fell victim to rain on Thursday and Smoky Mountain Speedway was rained out on Saturday.

The upcoming weekend – July 13-14 – will see Team Zero pursuing the LOLMDS to Illinois and Missouri. Action opens on Friday night with the Napa Know How 50 at Tri City Speedway (Pontoon Beach, Illinois) before moving to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) on Saturday night for the annual Diamond Nationals Both events will pay $12,000 to the winner.
