Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (07/24/18) – Ricky Weiss led a handful of laps in Saturday night’s coveted Silver Dollar Nationals finale before flashing across the finish line with a runner-up finish in the coveted event behind the wheel of his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model.

“I know it wasn’t a win, but man it sure felt like it to us,” Weiss said. “To lead laps and finish second against the best in the business in such a big event is a big deal for our team. Really the whole week of action with the Lucas Oil tour was a good one for us. It shows where we are at with our program, and that we can contend on the national level. We’ve been discussing venturing out to the national scene next year with a tour, and this just shows that if we can get a little more sponsorship help that we are ready for the next step.”

On Tuesday night Ricky Weiss traveled to Brown County Speedway (Aberdeen, South Dakota) for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Bullet Sportswear Shootout. In a field of 24 cars, Ricky locked his spot into the show with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Bobby Pierce. Starting the feature in 4th, Weiss battled in the Top 5 throughout the 50-lapper before ultimately crossing the finish line in fourth behind Earl Pearson Jr., Josh Richards, and Bobby Pierce with Don O’Neal coming in 5th.

The following night at Jackson Motorplex (Jackson, Minnesota) for the Sturdevant’s Auto Parts 50, Weiss scored a fifth-place finish in his heat race, which positioned him 14th on the starting grid for the A-Main. Breaking into the Top-10, Ricky improved seven spots, reeling in a seventh-place finish.

On Thursday night at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) for the Malvern Bank Go 50, Weiss locked his spot into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a runner-up place finish in his heat behind Kyle Bronson. Rolling off seventh, Ricky ran into mechanical issues on lap-10 that prevented him from finishing the 50-lapper.

Returning on Friday night for two rounds of heat races, Weiss cruised to an 11-lap heat race victory in his first round. Starting in ninth in his second heat, Ricky gained six spots, reeling in a third-place finish.

Via his heat-race performances Weiss earned the fifth-starting position for the $53,000-to-win, 80-lap A-Main on Saturday night, Weiss slipped by Scott Bloomquist for the lead on lap-17. Losing the top spot to Bloomquist on lap-21, Ricky held on to a podium finish in the remaining 59 circuits scoring a runner-up finish behind Jonathan Davenport with Jimmy Owens, Hudson O’Neal, Earl Pearson Jr. rounding out the Top-5.
