Dustin Strand Sweeps NLRA Event at Red River Co-op Speedway
Triple Header Up Next for North Dakota Racer
Grand Forks, North Dakota (08/21/18) –Dustin Strand made a clean sweep of Thursday night’s Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) program at Winnipeg’s Red River Co-op Speedway. The triumph in his Q&Z Plumbing & Heating #71 RHR Brew/ Millenium Chassis Late Model marked his 14th win of the 2018 season.
“Everything went flawlessly on Thursday night at Red River Co-op Speedway, but on Friday night at River Cities Speedway luck was definitely not our side,†Strand said. “We had an engine failure and thrashed to make a complete motor change, but just as I was climbing into the car the feature went green. It was a bummer, but sometimes it just goes that way.â€
Thursday night saw Dustin Strand in action at Red River Co-op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) for the Northern Late Model Racing Association sanctioned Can-Am Late Model Challenge. In a field of 20 cars, Strand advanced one spot in his heat to pick up the win. Earning the third-starting position for the feature, Dustin overtook the leader on the fifth circuit and distanced himself from the field in the remaining circuits to capture his 14th win of the season and a $1,200 payday. Shane Edginton, Brad Seng, Kevin Sexton, and Mike Balcaen completed the Top-5 finishers in the 25-lap affair.
On Friday night Strand followed the NLRA to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota), where he was doing looking for the $1,200 top prize. Starting his heat race in the seventh position, Dustin was running in second and battling for the lead when he lost a cylinder in his engine. He attempted a complete oil system change along with an engine swap but ran short on time as the feature went green before he could make it onto the track surface.
The following night brought 29 NLRA followers to Red River Valley Speedway (West Fargo, North Dakota). Passing two cars in his heat, Dustin scored a third-place finish earning him the 11th-starting position for the feature. Breaking into the Top-5, Strand improved six spots to finish fifth behind Brad Seng, Don Shaw, Donny Schatz, and Scott Ward.
Sunday’s NLRA finale at Sheyenne River Speedway (Lisbon, North Dakota) was wiped out by Mother Nature.
Dustin is currently second in the latest NLRA point standings as he seeks his third tour championship. For more information from these events as well as the latest series standings, please visit www.NLRA.org .
