David Breazeale Races to First Win of 2018
Brandon Overton Battles Bad Luck at Dirt Million
Calera, AL (08/29/18) – Both Franklin Motorsports, David Breazeale and Brandon Overton were both in action over the weekend.
Enjoying a rare off weekend from the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series, David Breazeale claimed his first win of 2018 in his Franklin Fence & Erosion Control #54 XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Jay (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)ens Racing Engine Super Late Model. The Mississippi racer streaked to the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway (Hattiesburg, Mississippi).
David Breazeale entered the MSCCS event on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway (Hattiesburg, Mississippi). After recording the fourth-fastest time overall in qualifying, David scored a Dash victory, earning him the pole position for the A-Main. Leading flag-to-flag, David Breazeale topped Michael Arnold, Dean Carpenter, Spencer Hughes, and Rick Rickman at the line to capture his first win of the season and a $2,000 payday.
On Saturday evening Breazeale followed the MSCCS to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) to do battle for the $2,500 top prize. Earning the pole position for the feature via preliminary events, David dropped two spots in the 40-lapper to place third behind Timothy Culp and Chad Thrash with Dane Dacus and Rick Rickman completing the Top-5 finishers.
“It was great to get our first win of the season, but even more it was awesome to get to sleep in my own bed both nights and spend a weekend with a lot of family and friends,†Breazeale said. “It’s been a really busy season on the road, but we are entering the homestretch now. We’re going to take a few weeks off to regroup for the upcoming Outlaws events.â€
While Breazeale raced in Mississippi, Overton made the long trip to Mansfield Motor Speedway (Mansfield, Ohio), where he entered the inaugural Dirt Million with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) in his Franklin Fence & Erosion Control #76 BCI Asphalt/ XR1 Rocket Chassis Super Late Model.
With 77 entries on hand, Brandon qualified fifth fastest in his group on Friday night, but his time was disallowed after he was told he was 11 pounds light at the scales. From that point Brandon found himself behind the eight ball for the rest of the weekend as he battled more bad luck with flat tires and other issues. He would fall short of qualifying for the $202,940-to-win finale.
“I just want to put this past weekend in the rearview mirror. It was a total nightmare from top to bottom,†Overton quipped. “We’ll just focus on getting things back on track this coming weekend.â€
While Breazeale will take the next two weeks off, Overton will be very busy over the course of the Labor Day weekend. He plans to enter a trio of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) events in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. Action opens with $12,000-to-win events on Friday and Saturday at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Kentucky) and Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio). On Sunday evening the $50,000-to-win Hillbilly 100 will be held at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, West Virginia).
