Ricky Weiss Doubles Down in John Seitz Memorial Weekend at River Cities

Headingley, Manitoba, Canada (09/10/18) – The weekend may have not gone exactly as Ricky Weiss envisioned it, but by the time the final checkered flag had dropped, the Canadian racer was all smiles.
After being unable to compete in the 48th annual World 100 at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway because of technical issues, the team hightailed it to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota), where they entered the 12th annual John Seitz Memorial. The long trip paid dividends as Ricky Weiss won a prelim feature and then streaked to the $9,200 finale victory in his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model.
“Well, the weekend couldn’t have possibly started on a more disappointing note, but it ended up really well,†Weiss said after winning his first-career John Seitz Memorial. “We were really bummed that we were unable to compete in the World 100, but the rules are the rules, and now that we know we have an issue, we’ll make the necessary changes.
“Despite the letdown, our team didn’t give up and we came back and had an awesome weekend at River Cities Speedway. I’ve been wanting to win this race for a long time. It’s kind of funny how things work out sometimes.â€
The 12th annual John Seitz Memorial weekend started on a sour note after Mother Nature forced Thursday’s Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA), Prelude to the Johnny program to be postponed until Saturday afternoon.
As a result the event officially came to life on Friday night with preliminary action for the $9,200-to-win, John Seitz Memorial. Weiss passed three cars in his heat race to finish in the runner-up slot behind Scott Ward. Earning a spot into the Dash, Ricky posted a third-place finish positioning him the third on the starting grid for Saturday night’s finale.
Weiss grabbed the lead early in the 92-lap finale, and paced the field until A.J. Diemel took control on lap 50. Regaining the lead from Diemel on lap-66, Ricky Weiss held off a hard-charging Don Shaw to pick up his 19th win of the season over Shaw, A.J. Diemel, Scott Ward, and Joey Pederson. Weiss pocketed a $9,200 prize for his performance in the 92-lap affair.
Earlier on Saturday, Weiss outran a talented field of 44 Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) entries at River Cities Speedway to claim the rescheduled Prelude to the Johnny. Leading flag-to-flag, Ricky Weiss topped Jeffrey Massingill, Jake Redetzke, Dustin Strand, and Shane Edginton at the line, capturing a $1,292 payday.
This weekend – September 12-15 – Ricky Weiss will enter the 33rd annual Wissota 100 at I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota), where he’ll chase a $10,000 top prize in the Late Model finale.
