Dale McDowell Masters Dixie Shootout for the Fourth Time
Invades Smoky Mountain Speedway this Saturday Night
Mooresburg, Tennessee (10/02/18) – For the second-straight week Dale McDowell streaked to a $12,000 victory in his Shane McDowell Racing #17m New Era Industrial/ Will Kinzer Foundation/ Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
His latest major win came on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway. He led all 50 circuits in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned, Dixie Shootout to claim the event triumph for the fourth time in his career.
McDowell attributed a big part of his win to a good pill draw as well as a late-race caution that erased lapped traffic.
“We drew early and I think that helped us,†McDowell commented. “And starting up front helped us. The late-race caution helped us because it let me get clean air. I never did think I’d see the day when air was (so) important in (Dirt Late Model racing). You hear about it (in NASCAR racing) on Sundays, but clean air (is important). I got loose in dirty air behind ‘em and I’m sure those guys did a little bit too. When you’re sitting out front, you’re just a sitting duck. Those guys are gonna go where you aren’t, so it just worked out. Thank the good Lord for a good safe race tonight. It was just meant for us to be here.â€â€
On Friday night Dale McDowell was one of 20 Super Late Models registered at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, North Carolina) for the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series sanctioned, FK Rod Ends Tarheel 50.
After laying down the the fastest time overall in qualifying in the Brandon Kinzer Motorsports entry, McDowell posted a runner-up finish in the Dash behind Casey Roberts, which earned him the outside-front-row starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. After jumping out to an early lead, Dale suffered a flat-tire while leading on lap-23 that dropped him back to a 14th-place outing.
The following night bought Dale to Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Georgia), where he was competing in a field of 44 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries for the annual Dixie Shootout. After laying down the fastest time overall in qualifying, McDowell cruised to a heat race victory, positioning him on the pole for the A-Main.
Leading wire-to-wire, Dale McDowell soared to his eighth win of the season topping Jonathan Davenport, Josh Richards, Brandon Overton, and Tim McCreadie at the line. He was awarded a $12,000 payday for his dominant performance in the 50-lap affair.
On Sunday evening McDowell stopped at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia) for the LOLMDS-sanctioned Rome Showdown. Grabbing the fourth and final transfer spot in his heat race, Dale earned the 16th-starting position for the $10,000-to-win finale.
