Dale McDowell Seals the Deal in Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway
Spring Nationals at Smoky Mountain Speedway this Saturday
Mooresburg, Tennessee (04/08/19) – For the third-straight week Dale McDowell visited Victory Lane with his Shane McDowell Racing/ E-Z-Go #17m New Era Industrial/ Will Kinzer Foundation/ Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
McDowell’s latest conquest came on Thursday night in the $10,000-to-win, Spring Thaw at Tennessee’s Volunteer Speedway.
“We had a different right front tire, and I pushed early in the feature, but as the race went on the car started to get better and better, and I was able to get past Jimmy [Owens] in lapped traffic,†McDowell said. “This place [Volunteer Speedway] really races awesome. We’ve been close to Victory Lane the past few times we’ve been here and just have come up short. Tonight, we got it done though.â€
On Thursday night Dale McDowell was one of 23 Ultimate Southeast Series entries on hand at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) for the annual Spring Thaw. Starting the night by laying down the fastest time in qualifying, McDowell bagged a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Jimmy Owens, which locked him into the fourth-starting position for the opening night feature.
Slowly pacing his way to the front, Dale slid past race-leader Jimmy Owens on lap-32 and built a 2.395 second margin over Owens in the remaining 18 circuits to capture his third win of the season and a $10,000 payday. Owens, Brandon Overton, Shanon Buckingham, and Ross Bailes trailed him to the checkers.
The following night, McDowell headed to 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee) for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Tennessee’s Action Track 50. In a field of 29 cars, Dale streaked to a 10-lap heat race victory, positioning him second on the starting grid for the $12,000-to-win A-Main. Dale went on to post a fifth-place finish behind Ross Bailes, Donald McIntosh, Jimmy Owens, and Jonathan Davenport.
On Saturday evening the LOLMDS wrapped up the weekend at North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia) with a $12,000-to-win affair. Starting the night with a heat race victory, McDowell earned the third-starting position for the finale. Running into trouble early, Dale was force pitside on lap-6 to replace a tire, which relegated him to a 16th-place finish.

The team currently has a single event on the docket for the upcoming weekend. On Saturday night the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals thunder into Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) for a $10,000-to-win event.
