Ricky Weiss Builds Momentum in WoO Action with Strong Finishes
Sets Sights on Silver Dollar Nationals Mega Weekend
Headingley, Manitoba, Canada (07/18/19) – Ricky Weiss embarked on a four-race swing with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series last week and came away with four strong finishes to show for his efforts.
The driver of the Derrick’s Sandblasting No. 7w Kakela Farms/ J&C Properties/ Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Super Late Model registered three podium finishes and finished no worse than sixth in any of the races.
“This team is performing really well right now. We keep making tweaks to this racecar and it just keeps getting better,†Weiss said. “This whole year our car gets better and better as the race goes along. I’ve joked that if some of these races had been 60 laps instead of 50 that we might’ve won instead of finishing second. With that said I’m really excited to get back to I-80 Speedway this weekend.
“Last year [at the Silver Dollar Nationals], I truly believe we had the car to win, but I just didn’t have the experience to get it done. This year I’m in a different place as a driver and this car has never been better, so I’m confident that we can be a contender.â€
Last Tuesday night Ricky Weiss followed the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series to ABC Raceway (Ashland, Wisconsin), where the tour continued its busy month. Drawing 25 cars for the Red’s Auto Badgerland 50, Weiss secured his spot into the opening night feature with a 10-lap heat race victory. Rolling off the starting grid second in the feature, Ricky ultimately crossed the finish line in third position behind Brandon Sheppard and Shane Clanton with Jimmy Mars and Cade Dillard rounding out the Top-5.
Returning to action on Friday at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota), Ricky landed a runner-up finish in his heat behind Shane Clanton, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Weiss improved four spots to place second behind Brandon Sheppard with Dennis Erb Jr., Shane Clanton, and Darrell Lanigan trailing them to the checkers.
The following night at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minnesota), Weiss followed up the second fastest lap overall in time trials with a heat race victory. The 50 lapper found Weiss battling the handle early in the feature before crossing the finish line in the sixth position.
Wrapping up the four-day stint with the World of Outlaws on Sunday evening at Red Cedar Speedway (Menomonie, Wisconsin), Ricky locked his spot into the $10,000-to-win finale with a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Chase Junghans. Weiss went on to advance one spot to post a third-place finish behind Chase Junghans and Shane Clanton with Brandon Sheppard and Cade Dillard completing the Top-5 finishers.

This weekend, July 18-20, Ricky is set to invade I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) for the ninth annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) weekend opens on Thursday night with the $10,000-to-win, Malvern Bank 50.
On Friday and Saturday night the $53,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals is on tap. Weiss led laps in the coveted finale before ultimately crossing the finish line in the second position.
