Rodney Sanders Enjoys Two-Win Weekend with USMTS
USMTS Action Continues at I-94 & Ogilvie
Happy, Texas (08/03/19) – Rodney Sanders enjoyed a stellar weekend in his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified as the Casey’s Hunt for the National Championship came to life. In three weekend events he registered two wins and a runner-up finish.
“This new car is really fast, and with where we are at right now with our program, we are a contender every time that we unload,†Sanders noted. “I want to thank my team and all of my sponsors for their great support and making my racing program possible. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going so that we can claim a third USMTS title.â€
Thursday night brought 33 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries to 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas) for the $2,500-to-win, Casey’s Hunt opener. Gaining three spots in his heat, Rodney Sanders scored a runner-up finish behind Cody Schneipp, which locked into the A-Main. Starting fifth in the feature, Sanders passed two cars in the 40-lapper to place third behind Terry Phillips and Dereck Ramirez with Hunter Marriott and Dan Powers rounding out the Top-5.
After a scheduled off day on Friday, Sanders headed to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) on Saturday for the 10th annual Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout. Following a sixth-place finish in his heat race, Sanders captured a 15-lap consolation victory which positioned him 14th on the starting grid for the A-Main. Wheeling his way to the front, Rodney overtook Tyler Wolff for the lead on lap 20 and dominated the remaining distance en route to his ninth win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Dereck Ramirez, Terry Phillips, Hunter Marriott, and Jake O’Neil trailed him to the checkers in the 40-lap affair.
The following night at Monett Motor Speedway (Monett, Missouri), Rodney locked his spot into the finale with an 8-lap heat race victory. His performance in preliminary action positioned Sanders in the fourth starting spot for the feature. He went on to wrestle the lead away from Dereck Ramirez on lap 18 and held the top spot for the remaining 22 circuits scoring his 10th win of the season. Ramirez, Jake O’Neil, Hunter Marriott, and Tyler Wolff completed the Top 5. He pocketed a $2,500 payday for the triumph.

The upcoming weekend – August 9-10 – has Sanders preparing for another USMTS Casey’s Hunt doubleheader. Action opens on Friday night at I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) before shifting to Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minnesota).
