Ricky Weiss Claims Baltes Classic Victory at Eldora
Preps for Run at World 100 Title
Headingley, Manitoba, Canada (09/03/19) – For the second time in 2019, Ricky Weiss stood atop the Victory Lane stage at the famed Eldora Speedway. The latest visit to the coveted location came on Sunday evening during the 12th annual Baltes Classic.
The win marked his fifth of the 2019 season in his Derrick’s Sandblasting No. 7 Kakela Farms/ J&C Properties/ Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Super Late Model.
“I let a win slip away on Friday night with the Outlaws at Sharon Speedway, but tonight’s win definitely softens the blow. Anytime you can win at Eldora Speedway, it’s something special,†Weiss said. “"We unloaded with what we came here at the Dream, and all we did was free up all night. We were still a tick tight in the feature there, but hat's off to the crew. They worked so hard, and I’m really fired up to get the World 100 underway."
On Thursday night Ricky Weiss opened his extended Labor Day weekend of racing. He was one 26 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries on hand at I-96 Speedway (Lake Odessa, Michigan). Gaining one spot in his heat, Weiss recorded a fourth-place finish, which locked him into the $10,000-to-win feature. Passing four cars in the rain-shortened 24-lap affair, Ricky posted an eighth-place outing.
One night later, Weiss was in action in the “Buckeye State†as the Battle at the Border came to life on Friday evening at Sharon Speedway (Hartford, Ohio). Ricky followed up the ninth-fastest lap in time trials with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Chase Junghans. Starting the $6,000-to-win A-Main in the second position, Weiss raced to the lead on the 20th circuit of the 25 lapper. He held the top spot until the white flag lap when Brandon Sheppard nosed ahead for the lead. Sheppard won the drag race back to the line as Weiss had to settle for yet another runner-up finish in series action. Chase Junghans, Shane Clanton, and Darrell Lanigan rounded out the Top-5.
On Saturday evening, action at Sharon Speedway was preempted by a power failure at the track. The event was bumped to Sunday evening, but unfortunately Mother Nature axed the second round of the Battle at the Border. As a result, Weiss made the short trip to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the 12th annual Earl Baltes Classic.
In a field of 38 Sunoco American Late Model Series entries, Ricky secured his spot into the main event with an 8-lap heat race victory. Leading from wire-to-wire, Ricky Weiss soared to his fifth win of the season, which came over Freddie Carpenter, Zack Dohm, Jimmy Mars, and Ashton Winger. He earned a $5,000 payday for his dominant performance.
Ricky continues to sit second in the latst World of Outlaws point standings and has a commanding lead in the series’ Rookie of the Year battle.

The team now finds itself preparing for the biggest Dirt Late Model race on the planet – the World 100. This weekend – September 5-7 – the crown jewel of all crown jewels comes to life for the 49th time at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. On Thursday and Friday night, twin $10,000-to-win features will be contested. On Saturday night, the event draws to a thrilling conclusion with the $52,000-to-win, 100-lap finale.
