Tony Jackson Jr. Tops Tri City for Thursday Night Thunder Win
Bad Luck Strikes on Sunday at Magnolia Motor Speedway
Lebanon, Missouri (09/04/19) – The highs and lows of racing literally couldn’t be at two more opposite ends of the spectrum. Unfortunately, the Labor Day, racing weekend found Tony Jackson Jr. being subjected to both scenarios in his Merrill Self Storage No. 56jr Willard Quarries/ Hassett Truck Body Repair/ Barry Wright Race Car/ Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.
After starting the weekend with a $2,000 triumph on Thursday evening at Illinois’ Tri-City Speedway, he ended his four-day swing with a bent racecar on Sunday evening at Mississippi’ Magnolia Motor Speedway.
“We hit the ground running on Thursday night with this new Barry Wright Race Car at Tri-City Speedway. This piece was absolutely flawless,†Jackson Jr. said. “The next three nights we weren’t bad, but we were just a tick off as we continued to learn this new car. We were running in fourth but battling for second on Sunday night at Magnolia with just a few laps to go, when a guy tried a slidejob that didn’t work on the second-place guy. The second-place guy got spun in front of us, and we had nowhere to go and piled into him.
“It left us with a bent racecar on just our fifth night out, so now we’re taking it back to South Carolina to get fixed. It stinks, but I guess it’s just part of racing. We’ll get the car repaired and prepare for Texas in two weeks.â€
Kicking off the Labor Day weekend, Tony Jackson Jr. visited Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Illinois) on Thursday evening for the Thursday Night Thunder event. After laying down the second-fastest lap in his time trial group, Jackson Jr. gained one spot in his heat race to pick up the victory. Holding off Billy Moyer in the feature, Tony soared to his sixth win of the season. Moyer, Tim Manville, Allen Weisser, and Gordy Gundaker completed the Top-5 finishers. He earned $2,000 for his efforts.
The following night at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway (Paragould, Arkansas), competing in a field of 28 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series entries, Jackson Jr. locked his spot into the main event with a runner-up performance in his heat race. Running in the Top 10 throughout the feature, Tony crossed the finish line in the sixth position.
On Saturday evening at Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi), Tony posted a runner-up finish in his heat race, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. Passing two cars, Jackson Jr. reeled in a fourth-place finish behind Timothy Culp, Bub McCool, and Kyle Beard.
The final round of the COMP Cams tripleheader took the team to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on Sunday evening. Tony secured his spot into the finale with a heat race victory. Rolling off second for the feature, Jackson Jr. was battling for a podium finish late in the event, but was collected in a wreck with just three laps remaining. The resulting damage brought his night to an early end.
Tony still resides atop the latest CCSDS point standings. Full results from the weekend are available at www.TriCitySpeedway.net and www.COMPDirt.com .
The team will be idle this weekend as they make repairs on their No. 56. They next return to action on September 13-14 with a trip to The Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway (Justin, Texas) for the inaugural Southern Dirt Track Championship. The weekend is sanctioned by the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series and includes a $3,000-to-win race on Friday night and a $5,000-to-win program on Saturday evening.
Tony Jackson Jr. would to like to thank all of his marketing partners, which include Merrill Self Storage, Willard Quarries, Champion Oil, Merrill Bonding, Hassett Truck Body Repair, Levi Storage, Burger Fusion, Carget Motors, Becky Burk Realtor, Cornett Racing Engines, JRi Shocks, Allgaier, Swift Springs, Go Lithium Batteries, Winning Edge Carburetors, Base Fuel, Hoosier Midwest by Zoo, Modern Images, and MSR Mafia Marketing Services.
