Rodney Sanders Finishes Second in Vado’s Fall Nationals
Clinches Third USMTS National Championship
Happy, Texas (10/28/19) – Rodney Sanders recorded a podium finish on Sunday evening in the finale of the 20th annual Rancho Milagro USRA Fall Nationals at Vado Speedway Park. The podium performance came behind the wheel of his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.
“It was a pretty solid weekend for us. We were just a little off from where we needed to be, but it’s hard to complain about a second-place finish in such a big event with so many good cars. Cade [Dillard] did a great job, so congrats to him on the win,†Sanders noted. “With this weekend’s USMTS events canceled, we are officially the 2019 Champion. When I first starting racing with these guys, I just wanted to be competitive. I never dreamed that I’d win one USMTS championship, much less three, so this is pretty cool. Thank you to everyone who helped make this great year and championship possible.â€
Rodney Sanders made the trek to the brand-new Vado Speedway Park (Vado, New Mexico) over the weekend for the 20th annual Rancho Milagro USRA Fall Nationals.
Drawing 60 cars for the opening round of the three-day event, Sanders recorded a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Stormy Scott, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the preliminary feature. Locking the Top 5 into Sunday’s finale, Rodney logged an eighth-place outing.
Returning Friday night, Rodney passed six cars in his heat race to pick up the 8-lap victory. Starting the A-Main in the fifth position, Sanders advanced two spots to finish third behind R.C. Whitwell and Bobby Pierce with Jake O’Neil and Stormy Scott trailing them to the checkers.
Starting Sunday night’s $20,101-to-win A-Main in the sixth position, Sanders improved four spots to reel in a runner-up finish behind Cade Dillard with Bobby Pierce, R.C. Whitwell, and Dereck Ramirez trailing them to the checkers.

The upcoming weekend had the Texas native geared up for a trio of United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) events in Texas at Kennedale Speedway Park. However, Mother Nature has already forced the cancellation of the events. Rodney Sanders, who needed only to suit up this weekend to secure the points battle, is now officially crowned the 2019 USMTS national champion – his third overall and first since winning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.
