Wendell Wallace Guns for Second Topless 100 Title Aboard Merrill Entry!

(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) When the 28th edition of the COMP Cams ‘Topless 100’ gets underway tomorrow night, a familiar face will be in the pit area at Batesville Motor Speedway. The 1998 winner Wendell Wallace, who has not competed in a Super Late Model event during the 2020 racing season, will be gunning for his second ‘Topless 100’ title at the nearby Locust Grove, Arkansas oval aboard a #12m Barry Wright Race Cars Icon entry for car owner Raymond Merrill of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Wendell is always a threat when he takes to the track at BMS in any division, as he has picked up three IMCA Modified feature victories and two runner-ups in only six starts this year at his hometown facility.

“I have to thank Raymond Merrill for putting me in a car this weekend for the Topless 100 and I can’t wait to be back behind the wheel of a Super Late Model!” exclaimed the Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer today in a telephone conversation. “Raymond has great equipment and it will be a lot of fun competing again in such a competitive car. The Topless 100 has always been one of my favorite races – along with the Show-Me 100 – and it would be very special to be in contention to win that race for a second time!”

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and COMP Cams Super Dirt Series will once again co-sanction the COMP Cams ‘Topless 100,’ which kicks off on Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21 with a pair of $5,000 to win preliminary programs. Drivers will earn points in the first two races that will set the lineup for Saturday’s consolation events and the 100-lap crown jewel headliner. The winner of the 2020 ‘Topless 100’ will once again receive a hefty $40,000 payday, while each feature starter will receive at least $2,000 for their efforts. Each of the three races from August 20-22 will be broadcast LIVE to subscribers on LucasOilRacing.TV.

Wendell would like to thank all of the sponsors on Raymond Merrill’s #12m entry including: Merrill Bonding Company, Merrill Self Storage, Willard Quarries, Stone Bank, Central Arkansas Pest Services, Mark’s Pharmacy, and Mark Martin Powersports.

Wendell, who was recently inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2018, is a former three-time ‘Show-Me 100’ winner (2007, 2006, & 2002), two-time ‘Masters 100’ winner (2003 & 1999), ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ winner (2000), ‘Topless 100’ winner (1998), and ‘Hav-A-Tampa Shootout’ winner (1996). The popular driver known as the “Batesville Bullet” amassed 26 career Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series victories, which was good for fourth most all-time behind only Scott Bloomquist, Dale McDowell, and Billy Moyer.
