Rod Conley Ninth in Independence 50 and Freedom 60 Prelim During Holiday Weekend
(WHEELERSBURG, OHIO) The Conley Motorsports, Inc. (CMI) teams made the short trek to Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on Friday night, July 1 to compete in the annual 'Independence 50,' which was once again sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Rod Conley ran fifth in his loaded heat race prior to grabbing the second transfer spot through the B-Main. After rolling off from the outside of the ninth row in the $12,000 to win headliner, "Hot Rod" steered past nine competitors on his way to a steady ninth place performance in the rain-shortened feature. His brother R.J. Conley placed fourth in his heat race to advance into the 'Independence 50,' but lost oil pressure near the halfway point in the contest and was forced to retire in the thirteenth finishing position.
Rod and his #71R team then made the trip to Muskingum County Speedway near Zanesville, Ohio later in the holiday weekend to enter the 'Freedom 60.' On Saturday evening, Rod stopped the clock thirty-second fastest overall during Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying before finishing ninth in his $3,000 to win qualifying feature. When the action resumed on Sunday, July 3, the Wheelersburg, Ohio ace placed sixth in the B-Main, which was unfortunately two mere positions away from a coveted starting spot in the $30,000 to win 'Freedom 60' finale. Both drivers are scheduled to return to dirt-slinging action this upcoming weekend in their home state of Ohio. Rod will start his weekend on Saturday night, July 9 with a visit to Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio, as a $3,000 top prize will be on the line. R.J. will then join Rod in competition on Sunday, July 10 at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles, Ohio. The unsanctioned ‘4B4EVER 40’ is scheduled for Sunday to celebrate the life of the late Jackie Boggs and the single-day showdown will shell out a $10,000 winner’s check.
