Booper Bare Records Top 5 in Raye Vest Memorial...

    October 18th, 2011

Change in Weekend Plans Gives Booper Bare & the Loco-Motive Team Top 5 Finish in the Raye Vest Memorial…

In what seems to be the case frequently in 2011, weather played a role in the Steel Block Bandits schedule. The Bandits were scheduled to take to the track for the first time in 2 months with the $5,000 to win Western Maryland Nationals taking place last weekend in Cumberland, Maryland. Mother Nature moved in with a cold, rainy forecast, forcing the postponement of the 2 day event until November 4th & 5th. For Booper Bare Racing, the change in schedules put “Plan B” into motion. The Sprouse/Cromer Motorsports team was loaded and ready to pull out when word of the postponement reached their Rockbridge Baths, VA race shop. The Jimmy’s Tree Service/JC Body Shop Mastersbilt was rolled out of the trailer and replaced with the Jim Stasiowski owned mount.

With the Loco-Motives, LLC Mastersbilt by Huey #37 onboard the team headed north to Winchester Speedway for the Raye Vest Memorial. The unique 2 day event was run in memory of one of the area’s most respected car owners and climaxed with a $10,000 to win 50 lap feature on Saturday. With rain during the day on Friday, the drivers were greeted with a very fast track. After posting the 9th quick time out of 50 competitors, Booper finished 4th in his competitive heat race giving him the 13th starting position in what was supposed to be a 35 lap feature. With a very fast, wide open track Booper was able to gain 3 positions and finish a well earned 10th place in the $5,000 to win race which due to a scoring mishap actually went 48 laps. Saturday brought a breezy, sunny day giving the drivers a completely different type of surface to race on. With 49 competitors returning, Booper again nailed down a good time trial lap and for the second day in a row was 9th quick. The field was then divided up into two 25 lap heat races with the top 12 being guaranteed a spot in the night’s 50 lap feature. Booper rolled off 5th in his heat race and ran up front with the leaders and brought home a great 3rd place finish giving him the 5th starting spot for the night’s finale. Anticipation was high as the field was given the green flag for the 50 lap/$10,000 to win Raye Vest Memorial. The 50 laps were run caution free on a track that became very slick and a little rough. The Loco-Motives #37 handled the bumps and holes real well as Booper stayed within the top 5 all race, battling for 3rd & 4th amongst lapped traffic, throughout the non-stop race. When the dust settled the team was awarded with a great 5th place finish.

“We had a good car and, our finishes showed that this weekend” said the Rockbridge Baths, VA veteran. “We were a little behind on Friday as we literally unloaded Merritt & Chris’s car and quickly loaded Jim’s car and headed up the highway. Jim has provided me with great equipment and the car was fast all weekend. I’m really honored to be a part of this Loco-Motives team and cannot thank Jim enough for this opportunity” added Booper. “A big thanks goes to my guys, Randy, Chuck, Billy, and everyone who has a hand in both these teams. Chris & Merritt work their tails off and it doesn’t matter if I’m driving their car or Jim’s. I’m very grateful to have everyone involved in this situation. Racing has become very fun again” said Bare.

This weekend, plans have The Loco-Motives Team heading north to Hesston Speedway in Hesston PA. It will be Booper’s first visit to the 4/10th mile speedway located in the Raystown Lake area of Pennsylvania. The weekend will be under the UFO Racing Series sanction with a $2,000 to win feature Friday and an $8,000 to win feature on Saturday. If by chance weather looks like it will play havoc at Hesston this weekend, “Plan B” will be the Delaware State Dirt Track Championships at Delaware International Speedway where Booper is a 2 time winner of the event.
