Jeff Taylor Claims IMCA Super Nationals Championship
Cave City, Arkansas (09/11/12) – It was a career performance for Jeff Taylor over the weekend during the 30th Annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) as he claimed his first ever championship in the much-coveted event in his #5 Jeff Taylor Racing/Industrial Electric/Provence Construction/New Vision Graphics/Taylor Chassis/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified .
With 251 Open Wheel Modifieds from around the country in action in the week-long 30th Annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals, Jeff earned the eighth starting spot for the 40 lap, $2,000-to-win finale via his performance in preliminary action. As the race went green he slowly began working his way forward through the field, and by late in the going he found himself in the second spot behind race leader, Brandon Blochlinger. With two laps to go Taylor caught and passed Blochlinger, and never looked back on his way to possibly the most prestigious win of his career.
“The last time I left here was on a tractor, and I wasn’t farming. It was pretty ugly,†Taylor said. “We came back to Super Nationals this year with the goal of getting back into the show, and I had an awesome car to do it with. I've never cried in victory lane, but after tonight I can't say that anymore,†commented an emotional Taylor.
“I built this car and raced it at the Duel In The Desert in Las Vegas last year,†he added. “I may park it in my yard now. I don’t know if I ever want to get rid of it.â€
With the win Taylor made history as the first driver from Arkansas to win an IMCA Super Nationals feature in any division.
On Friday he also took part in the Fast Shafts All Star Invitational, which pits the nation's best drivers against one another in a bragging rights event. He would race to a tenth place finish in the thirty car field.
