Ray Cook Amasses Trio of Top Tens at EAMS; Lucas Oil Double Dip Next
(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook Racing rolled into the East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama on September 28-29 for the 35th Annual 'Alabama State Championship.' The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) presided over the storied race for the first time and a pair of $4,000 top prizes were on the line. On Saturday night, Ray Cook timed in third quickest in Group B during SAS qualifying and later finished fifth in the 40-lap main event behind only winner Chris Madden, Jonathan Davenport, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., and Randy Weaver. At EAMS on Sunday afternoon, Ray ran second in his B-Main prior to passing four competitors during the 40-lapper en route to a seventh place performance.
The #53 team also entered a Crate Late Model at Phenix City over the weekend to vie for the $5,000 winner's check. Ray laid down the seventeenth quickest lap during qualifying on Saturday, which locked him into the inside of the ninth row in Sunday's 50-lapper. The Brasstown, North Carolina star had to rally from deep in the field twice - due to a flat tire - and was eventually credited with a solid sixth place effort. Next up for Ray and his self-owned #53 team will be a trip to the Peach State of Georgia on October 5-6, as they will tackle their first two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events of the season. On Saturday, the ‘Dixie Shootout’ will be held at the historic Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia, while the ‘Rome Showdown’ will wrap up the doubleheader weekend on Sunday at the ultra-fast Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia. Both shows this weekend will be filmed by the Lucas Oil Production Studios to air on several TV networks in 2013. Ray has picked up four wins this season already at the two Swims family facilities!
