Tyler Bare & Booper Bare Racing kicked off their 2015 season at Virginia Motor Speedway for the inaugural Fastrak Racing Series Touring Event.
Something strange happened this past Saturday morning when dawn rolled through Rockbridge County after a week full of rain; the sun, that has been so sparse of late was shining bright and bold in the blue sky. It was a welcome site to Tyler Bare and his race team, as Saturday signified the dawn of a new season for the 20 year old, 3rd generation chauffeur. Tyler and the team loaded up the Southlex Cattle Company #30 and made the 3 hour trek east to start their quest for a Virginia Motor Speedway Track Championship.
Virginia Motor Speedway, known for doing things first class, did not disappoint as the inaugural $3,000 to win Fastak touring race was on tap as a companion event to the $20,000 to win “King of the Commonwealth†for Super Late Models. When Tyler and team rolled into the pits, they found it packed with over 80 late models ready to do battle. Tyler’s lap times during hot laps gave an indication that his Booper Bare Racing owned, Lee-Hi Truck Parts/Wood Heavy Equipment Co. sponsored Rocket would be a force to reckon with among the 37 Fastrak competitors in attendance. After a fabulous pill draw of 90 (written with sarcasm), Tyler and team automatically knew they would fall into the last group for Time Trials and prepared the car as such. During Time Trials, Tyler knocked off a great lap and set fast time in his group giving him the pole for the 4th heat later in the evening. Bare would lead his competitive heat to the green and eventually fall back to third before the car came to him and he charged back up to battle the leaders. With only 8 lap heats, Tyler would pull back alongside the second place car at the checked but just needed an extra corner to get the pass made and settled for a hard fought third place finish, which transferred him automatically into the nights 40 lap feature. The crew went to work getting the Rhodenizer Heating #30 ready for battle. The Fastrak feature was the last event on the schedule and provided a different type of surface than Tyler had seen in his racing career. Bare would drive a great race, keeping his equipment under him running side by side mid pack with a bunch of great cars. The 40 laps went non-stop and Bare was credited with a respectable 14th place finish.
“For fourteenth, it was a good night†said Tyler after the race. “The car is one piece and I learned a lot out there. I had never raced on that kind of track surface before and I know next time I see that type of track, I will be much better. I think a caution would have helped by getting the field bunched up but sometimes when you need a cushion you do not get it and I‘m sure Walker (Arthur) did not want to see a yellow. I am still learning every week and I know I need to watch my tire management on a track like that. Everyone on the crew has worked so hard at the shop getting both cars ready and I can’t thank them enough, I am pretty sure the car was a little better than the driver tonight. I think for the most part it was a good start to the season and with so many friends, family and sponsors in attendance it was pretty cool. I want to congratulate Walker & Cecil (Arthur) on a great win, they are like family to me and I was happy they won if we couldn’t†added Bare.
Next week will find the team returning to VMS for their weekly opening night. With VMS off the following week, look for Tyler and his team to compete in the first Fastrak race at Natural Bridge Speedway where Tyler is a 2013 champion.
The team plans to utilize both Rocket & MBH cars with Kenny Lamb Racing Engines supplying the power. Plans are to make Virginia Motor Speedway, Booper Bare Racing’s weekly home. During off weekends look for the team to hit any major Crate race within about 3 hours from their Rockbridge Baths, Virginia race shop.
